Advancing timing...?
I heard that putting in higher octane gas and advancing the timing would result in slightly better milage and hp output, is that right? If so how do I advance the timing and how do I tell if the amount of adjustment is correct?
yep. cant adjust timing via distributor on obdII, but thats how you would do it on a obdI car. just turn the ditributor forward toward the car, advancing it as much as you can without getting detonation.
i have a 94, how would i do it? i heard somewhere that i'd have to jumper my ecu (however you do that) so that it doesnt retard automaticly. and i'm an engine n00b, how exactly would i anvance my timing? (details are good)
and would i get better gas milage? i'd be worth the extra amt of $ if it did.

so on my 6th gen Accord (OBDII 2.3L SOHC), does the engine automatically advance/retard timing based on what octane gas you are using? Of course it can't "detect" what octane you are using, just how far it can advance without knocking...
I was told that the car would run better on 87 than it would on 93 since my car is stock, and 87 is much easier to combust. I've been using 87 ever since, so the ignition timing hasn't been retarded has it? I really could not feel a difference when going from 89 to 93, or 89 to 87...
