Hey Lager, glad you were born...welcome! I'm new to the forum and have read through most of your wisdom.

My tranny tragedy occured last evening. Gotta '98 Accord Coupe LX V6 w/ auto (what other information do I need to povide you?) and 110k. Stop and go traffic: shifting became quite erractic, lurching into gear, delay before engagment into 1st, slamming gears while down-shifting.

Pulled off and symptoms got worse. At a stop light, even began to roll backwards, would not engage in gear...and spun tach. Got it parked and towed to nearby honda dealer.

Pulled code and indicated problem w/ gear ratio. Recommedned change of solenoid @ $520, and if problem not corrected, $5500 for a tranny...insanity!

I've seen recall on the 2000-01 trannys for some honda/acuras, any bulletin info on this one?

I am a major honda lover and have encouraged friends and family to get a honda/acura (we own one of each), and they have heeded my suggestion. But my loyalty is getting mighty shaky w/ the problems I've had with emissions and now the tranny.

What are your thoughts? Help! Your, and anyone elses feedback would really be appreciated. Thank ahead of time!

Hey, Lager! You are fantastic. I wish everyone on HAN had your knowledge and personality. Now for my question..... I have a 2000 Prelude base five speed (as it says in my signature), and I was currious about this timing belt auto tensioner issue. It seems alot of people have this problem. I just changed my belts and water pump and found nothing wrong with the tensioner (yeah, I've got 85k on the car now). There has been some concern about a growling noise at about 1500 rpm. Is this something I may have to be concerned with in the future? Also, what other issues do you see with higher mileage 5th generation Prelude manuals? I'm gonna blow by 100k in no time, so I figured if you'd be willing to spill the beans as to what (if anything) I need to worry about. Just to let you know, I am religious about changing my fluids at the right intervals, so no need to ask if I do. Thanks.

Lager,

The auto transmition on my 1996 Honda Accord EX is slipping. Actually, it's been slipping for about 15K miles now. It's held up for a year or so. I'm sure it's slipping. Everything once in a while, i'll be at a light, and try to go. But it'll rev up, and wont go anywhere.

I currently have 78K miles i believe. Is my transmition still under warranty?
