Default Transmission Woes

My 98 Accord V6 is revving up to like 3 rpms and then "ca-clunk" into 2nd gear. This is only in the morning after sitting over night... and only for like the first 2-3 mins til the engine warms up then it shifts fine. Am i in the early stages of need a new tranny? i have 70K mi. on the engine... little early for a tranny to be going isn't it? is there anything i can do to prolong this tranny? Should i take it to a tranny specialist... maybe they can adjust some of the belts or something?

me = idiot

Thanks guys

Have you had the tranny fluid replaced? Ever?

You do have an extended warranty/recall from honda on the 98 V6 tranny so check with your dealer and get it replaced by them for nothing (i think)...there was a problem with enuf trannies that the recall/extended warranty was necessary....

Called the dealership and only 00,01 accord coupe fallunder the recall/warranty extension. and SOME 98,99 (depending upon your VIN #) and of course my VIN wasn't included. Just my luck

Does anyone know how much this job would cost (replacing the tranny)????

Should i get it done at the dealership?

This is a lil surprising because as I recall most of the problems were with the older (98-99) cars....and the bugs were later worked out...

I'm not sure it's gonna help you or not, Mine(I4 auto) was like that for a while then it disappeared (or I got used to it)..after I changed my tranny fluild . Mine still doesn't like downshifting though.

Uh, yeah, check the recall notices out on the web. It certainly wasn't limited to coupes. Maybe check with another dealer in the area, sounds like someone's trying to cheat you. This recall is pretty big and encompasses almost all of the 6g autos.

Bummer

Your 1998 Honda Accord is not included in the Transmission Warranty Extension. For more information, please see the Press Release. *Below*

American Honda Extends Warranties on Select Automatic Transmissions

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 20, 2002 - American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced today it will provide extended warranties on approximately 1.2 million Honda and Acura models equipped with automatic transmissions due to problems that may result in premature wear or failure. The extended warranty will cover affected transmissions for seven years or 100,000 miles.

The standard bumper-to-bumper warranty for Honda vehicles is three years or 36,000 miles, while Acura vehicles are covered for four years or 50,000 miles.

Vehicles covered by the extended warranty include:
2000 - 2001 Honda Accord, Odyssey and Prelude
2000 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 TL
2001 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 CL

While only two percent of these vehicles have experienced these transmission problems, American Honda will provide extended transmission warranties on all potentially affected vehicles. "Our priorities are making sure our customers are taken care of and reassured they can continue to depend on their Honda or Acura automobile for a long time to come," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president for American Honda.

There is usually plenty of warning to the driver that the transmission is not operating properly, such as slow or erratic shifting, giving them ample time to take the vehicle in for service.

American Honda will notify all owners of eligible vehicles via mail in the coming weeks.
