Default Rear Doors Grinding (94)

My beautiful 94 Accord embarasses me everytime someone has to get in to or out of the back seat.

Both rear doors make a grinding sound when opening and closing.

They've done this ever since I purchased the car a few years ago, and I've seen it on other Accords as well. The piece that goes into the middle of the door (between the hinges) looks rusted, but shiny on top, maybe this is what the door is rubbing on. I've tried lifting the door (maybe the hinges are loose), I've tried sanding the rust off, and of course greasing. Nothing has worked.

I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and has been able to fix it. Or if anyone has any suggestions at all.

I also have the common exhaust "buzzing" around 2300 RPMs and was wondering if this could possibly be my cat. Do they ever go bad?

Just a couple of things I'm trying to fix this summer. Thanks for your help.

did you try spraying some lube or som WD-40 on the at peice (the door check is what its called by the way) that may help loosen it up a bit. As for the buzz at 2300 there is an intermediate pipe between the a-pipe and the cat, Honda makes a kit that has two donuts four springs and four bolts that update the ones on the pipe to a different compound that eliminates the buzz. Before you go that route check all of you heat sheilds make sure they arent loose especially the cat.

Buzzing at 2300 is most likely your lower heat shield and if you just remove it then it will be gone.

Its how I fixed mine...Hondas are notorious for the "exhaust buzz".

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be getting under my car to check that stuff when it stops raining here in Ohio. I'll check into that kit too. Do you think Accord Store would have it?

As far as the door grinding, I've tired grease already, but mainly on the door check because that's what seems to be grinding. It hasn't worked. Is it the hinges that are grinding? I'll try to stuff soon if I get a chance, thanks again for the help.

Its probably a combination of the hinges and the slider that keeps the door from opening too far.

I have tried the grease and it doesn't take care of the problem. It seems to have MAYBE made it a little better (but this is probably in my head).

Any other suggestions?

What about taking apart the door? Maybe taking off the inner door panel. I've never had it off on this car and don't know what it exposes.

It seems like this is a fairly common problem. Has anyone ever contacted Honda about it?

Thanks for everyone's help so far.
