Default I'm gonna build a custom turbo and I have some questions. . .

Hi all,

Ok, so following the meet and some discussion with some people there, I think I'm going to build a custom turbo setup for my f22. I'm going to bypass the kit and work with an operating budget of 1000-1500.

These are the details of my project, please comment and answer my questions if you can.

- Im planning on running very low boost. 6-8 lbs. What opinions do you all have on whether this can be done on stock internals?

-Probably going to grab a used turbo adn build around it, potentially the eclipse turbo since its tuned for 7 psi. What other important components will i need. Thus far, I know i need:

-Turbo
-Manifold
-Downpipe
-Wastegate
-Custom Pipe
-Fuel Pressure Regulator
-Fuel Rail

I'm told that for low boost like this, I can get away without an intercooler or a blow-off valve? is this so?

These are the components i might potentially need: Anything to add?

-Blow off valve
-New Fuel Pump
-Bigger Injectors
-Cam Gear (for retarding my timing)

I fully intend to get a compression test before i do anything, but right now, if i can manage to get a decent job, i think this will be a cool summer project. Let me know what you all think, thanks.

Your project should be fun. A little while ago I was concidering doing this. But with my accord having high-miles and the engine always haveing problems. I bagged the idea and am saving up for a H22.

I know a guy with a 95 accord. Stock F22B1 and running a FMAX turbo kit with a HKS blow off valve and FMIC. He runs 8PSI, and only has a Port and Polished head. He says his motor is fine. He wants to run higher boost. But he wanted to get better internals first. But Im sure you should have fun. and bet it will turn out great. His sn on AIM/AOL is AccordVtec95. If you want to talk to him.

As far as I know, the ghetto-rig way of testing your compression is pulling a spark plug wire off while the car is running, if you hear a decrease in idle, then its getting a proper seal. Then move on to the next.

As far as 1000-1500, wow, that is kinda tight... don't know how to help you there. But while you getting the eclipse turbo, take the manifold too, I've read it can be easily adapted.

Now, anyone else gonna help us? I am in the market for a custom setup too. Except I want a more advanced setup, BOV, Intercooler, and external wastegate.

So far I have these picked out.

- TiaL 35mm Wastegate
- HKS Super BOV

Yea, pretty small list huh? Need help on what else I should buy.
I am looking for a quick spooling turbo for the 10psi and below range.

As always, any help would be really great.

Edit: Tein coil-overs eh? Thats what I am planning to buy, super sexy... mmmmm..... *drools violently*

hahah same route here.. maybe or a bike..
well everything you need is there basically.....
Turbo: recommend a t3 or t4 does not habe to be hybrid.. you have to know what turbo you want first before you get the mainfold. Becuase the trim plate have to match up.. and an intercooler is recommened, lower the air tem and thus making it spool quicker and reducet the chance of detonation.
there is 500 if your luck...
then manifol and down pipe,,, ther is anoutehr 500..
Pipe..oil return line..there is 300..
Recommened also to run safe.. a stage 1 turbo X boost controller(like 100 cheap), A waste gate that is set between 7-9psi, a decent BOV(i personally would get the HKS SS because of sound and qulity)...
That should run you close to 2000...
i shoudl get mine a tad cheper because of my wholesale account.. but that is basic.

ONe more thing.. i dont' recomment going over 8psi without the IGnition upgrade, Fule and at least the black guard or metal gasket..

I would at the very least get a VAFC to tune the fuel curve. I'm in the process of building my own kit also, its all about frugal shopping. For building a cheap turbo kit, ebay is your friend. I picked up a saab t3 for 45. Got a rebuild kit for 40, its soaking in parts cleaner now for about the last 6 months, I just havent had the time to put it back together, but it should be really clean by now. You can pick up sparco type Front mount intercoolers off ebay for under 200, If you have a CAI, it can be used to plumb from the intercooler to the TB, just have a BOV flange welded on it. You can find places that do custom manifolds for under 400. I've seen places that will sell them for about 2-3, You can always pick up BOV's and Wastegates off ebay for cheap if you look for a long time and pick up when noone seems to be bidding. Same with a VAFC. I also plan to get a set of 450 injectors and go with a vafc hack to regulate fuel. The tubing, and downpipe can be done at a local muffler shop, You can pick up the downpipe flange for the turbo for like $15 online.

i have an LX so it would be an SAFC but thats a good idea. Would the bigger injectors really be necessary for only 8 lbs of boost?

Yea... would they (injectors)?

After searching around though, I think I am going to get a T3 turbo (non-hybrid) with ceramic ball-bearing option.

Also, ACS, the V-tec version of SAFC, if I am not mistaken, lets you decide when V-tec kicks in, if at all. I am a junkie for options... so thats a plus for me.

good luck:thumbup:

watch out for used turbo stuff on the net, it's usually junk. stick to stuff you can see in person. have you contacted trickengineering?
