How big is the alternator on 5th gen accords? How much power is used by the car while driving down the road with just the raidio and headlights on on highbeam with no airconditioning or heat? Thanks

I've ran a JBL BP1200.1 on that bad boy and it worked pretty good. I also have an Optima YellowTop under the hood.

I've also ran the DEI Directed 1100d.

Before I upgraded to the YellowTop battery, I killed a regular battery (Sears Die Hard?) and an Optima RedTop. But the YellowTop has lasted me for about 2 years now.

The alternator is only 80A and the Autozone replacement is 90A ($100). I've searched and searched and searched for a bigger alternator. I think you can get a 130A or something from ebay for like $200.

I've got 0 ga wired from mine. I will one day have 2 JBL BP1200.1's being powered by the stock electrical system in addition to the P80.4 and P180.2 I already have.

I say get a YellowTop and just run as much as you can until either the YellowTop and/or alternator dies on you. You'll have flickering/dimming in your headlights, but who doesn't?

i killed my old alternator with a rockfard 800.2 ... i got a new one from www.mralternator.com 130 amps maybe? i forget exactly how much but its been working great so far. word of warning though they send a smaller pulley size with it for my 94 accord which made for a really shitty night!

and only for $195!

Hehe, yeah I killed my alternator AND batteries with my 800x4 Fosgate amp too!

I got my alternator from some place in texas. I found them off of ebay. $185 and it puts out 180 amps (double the stock of the V6's 90 amps). The only problem is that I had to steal a bolt off my old alternator and my car makes a God-awful squeaking noise everytime because they use a slightly smaller pulley to get more amps out. So I just changed to a new, non-stretched out drive belt and it's working just fine.

as for the battery, i got that die hard truck, suv and van battery. uh...it had good warranty. hehe. 3 years no questions asked with the next 4 after that prorated.

ya they're pretty easy to do.. 2 bolts i believe and ya pop it off. Just gotta make sure you have the right pulley/belt size or you're gonna have some serious problems.

i had to impact wrench off my new pulley and replace it with my old alternator's pulley

/edit
stupid RF amps.. alternator killers i tell you! i switched over to that jbl 1200.1 and love it.

the problem is those damn severely underrated RF amps put out damn near as much power as a JBL BP1200.1. But the JBL is D-class only pulling about 114A max current where as the RF's are A/B class pulling about 250A out of the car's azz!
