Hey guys, I was just going to get my windows tinited when i saw these little black dots all around the edges of the window. They are on pretty much all new cars now i think, but i cant figure out what they're for. I know the tint doesnt go to well over it cause my friends beamer has the exact same thing. Does anyone else know what im talking about or have this problem?? The tint shop said they could sand them down, but i dont want them f**king up the defroster lines on the back windshield. Any thoughts, suggestion, or opinions would be very much appreciated!

thanks,
Chris
A good shop will scuff them up a little bit so the tint will stick better, otherwise, the tint won't stick for sh*t over them. Even scuffing it up isn't gonna get the tint to stick perfectly, but it'll be alot better than if they didn't scuff it at all. I have these dots ur talking about on my car and the tint is slightly raised(not sticking flatly) over them, but it doesn't look bad. The only other way to go would be to cut the tint so that it doesn't go over the dots, which will look alot worse.

yea, i thoguht the dots werent the atenna either, cuz if at night, u use ur defroster, the top 3 orange lines are still.. uh.. frosted, where the rest of the window is defrosted and cleared.. and i figured that those 3 orange lines make up the antenna part.

I've been off and on HAN since we got the car in 98....that was back in the old days, when Off-Topic was 95% porn, Alicia was still here (though not for long after that). I believe there were also some 'disputes' that lead to the creation of honda-tech? Anyone remember those days?

what my friend did on his 02' ACcord Coupe was to just have the tinting people cut it right under the dots. it still looks great cuz you can't really tell the difference between the dots and the tinted area. i haven't gotten my tint yet, but i'm going to do the same thing and not mess with whatever the dots do.

Chris, sorry to burst your bubble, but the dots are not the antenna. If you look at your rear window closely, you will see the horizontal lines for the defroster, and some rather uneven verticle lines. Those verticle lines are the antenna. Trust me on this.
I also thought the vertical lines were the antenna on my '03, but the top two lines of my defroster don't seem to work cuz the rest of my window defrosts fast except for the top two sections, so I asked on another forum and I was told that the top 2 lines were for the antenna and the vertical lines were just to speed up defrosting which was a problem on the earlier accords. Could this be true?

No. Defrosting has never been a problem with Hondas. Any lines on the rear window that don't aid in defrosting are part of the antenna. They may have added additional horizontal lines for the fm diversity antenna.

I wonder what defrosting does to tint, would it melt it? lol

I mean I never use it and have no need to.... But some say you can use it others say you cant....

The defroster should have no affect on good tint..... that is if it is of excellent quality and installed by people who know what they are doing. You must live in Arizona if you have no need for a defroster!
