automatic launches
There is absoloutely no possible way that you're gonna be able to rev upto 5000 rpm in Drive while brake is depressed. When i used to own an auto, the most i ever got upto in all the cars were like 2000 to 2500 rpm while brake torquing. For launch results on an auto, the best way is to brake torque. Hold the brake all the way down in Drive, press gas all the way down, when rpm goes up max (~2500), let go of brake very fast. Car should peel out a bit and launch.
What i said above is just how it is done, but with an automatic tranny, u shouldnt do too many of those or even race. The autos arent built to take that kinda stress, and they will harm ur transmission so just use the auto for gettin to places and cruisin out.

Launching from a brake torque at around 3500 rpm will give you quicker times by like 0.15 seconds. Its not good for your tranny if you do it constantly but if that 0.15 seconds is worth it to you than go ahead and do it. But whatever you do never neutral drop.. NEVER!!
in terms of speed, you'd be better off launching at at least 3k rpm, but if the affects on the tranny are what you are more interested in, of course having ur foot on the brake with the rpm up to about 3k will affect that, you can burn out your torque converter if done enough times. Its not gonna be something that you will do 3 times and then ur tranny or converter will fail, but it over the life of the car, if done enough times, it will shorten the tranny/converters life span.

Road and Track says that best acceleration times on the V6 are achieved by just stomping on the gas pedal, no torque braking.
