Default Need help on fixing vtec

Hey guys. I already did a search so don't flame. I just did the 60,000 tune on my accord and check my vtec and it is working. the solenid and the computer is running fine, but it still isn't kicking in. Is there a website were I can find information on fixing it and does the Haynes Manual come with information on it. I need to know if there is a porcess to clean the ports, etc. I think it might be clogged. Already cleaned the fuel injection. Thanks for the help.

I highly doubt you can tell when the VTEC kicks in on an Accord, seeing as it kicks in around 3000 or something along those lines.(as i was told by EddieBx)

theres a slight kick... and if VTEC is not working, there is absolutley NO power over the normal engagement point.

My VTEC quit for a while... and I came to find that the wire in the engine harness was bad (somehow). I hotwired the solenoid from the connector at the solenoid to the engine harness connector on the strut tower... and it worked fine... so I ran a new wire to replace the one in the engine harness. I didnt pull the old one out, so im not exactly sure what happened to it, I just ran a new wire in some wire loom and attached it to the origional harness with wire ties.

Maybe something to look into. Also, make sure the engine has plenty of oil... VTEC wont work if the oil is low.

Check your engine oil level. If engine oil is low, VTEC will not kick in. Also, VTEC does not engage until engine is warmed up.

already know that and the wiring is fine. I was thinking about removing my head and clean the port cause I think it might be clogged. I just changed my oil and everything else. Is there a website that can give me detailed information or a book i can buy with problems and solutions to the problem.

a haynes manual should give a pretty detailed disassembly procedure... as far as diagnosing it, it does not give that...

may I ask why you are so hung up on it being clogged ports? Are you sure all the electrical aspects of it are functioning properly? Does the car have any high-RPM power? all the time? sometimes? never?

3000RPM? It's gotta be a lot higher than that. I feel a pretty good surge at around 4500RPM.

The car always has high rpm power. The reason why is because my mechanic and I changed my timing belt on my car, and when we took of the head, it looked like it was dirty. I gues the women prior before never changed the oil at correct intervals. He thinks it is possible it might be clogged and not flowing correctly. He remembers reading it in a book but one of his friends took it from him. We want to take it out and just clean it but we want to make sure we have the correct procedures. I feel a surge around 4500 also.
