Default Is it me or are 97 accords....

Junk... My 97 accord is the crappiest car I ever bought.. My 1988 Honda accord has less things wrong with it than the 1997 accord.. Yesterday while driving down the freeway, the whole damn plastics under the bumper and the wheel wells broke off.. What A JOKE!!!! It ruined the front bumper in the process, broke a bunch of clips and broke the corner turn signal (don't ask me how it did that.) My A/C has never worked (dealer says it is not under warranty even though it stopped working a month after it was bought..) All the power door locks broke (no it is not a realy or fuse, I have looked into it, there is a plastic part in the door lock assembly that broke---on all four doors!!!) The drivers side front window keeps popping out of the track.. My SRS light stays on, and there is something that keeps drainging the battery... Oh and with only 2500 miles on the car, the cam gear broke off of the cam---replacement cost $2300.... The dealer said it was not covered under their warranty... Also the P/S lines keep bursting, this is the forth time the line has been replaced...
I've replaced so much stuff on this car---this is a freaken joke!!!!

Backround on the car---It is totally stock (unless you count that the cd player and speakers are causing all of this...

Just needed to rant... I think I am going to be staying away from Hondas and Acuras for my next car purchase...

I am still keeping the 88 accord (that is my toy) But as far as the 97, I need something reliable... And the 97 accord hasn;t been..

Yeah the dealrship is an ass, I have a friend that works for a ford dealership, I might be going to him for another car. He can get some nice used cars in once in a while. I am staying away from buying a new car---it is just a waste of money.... Bought the car for $22K CASH back in 96, and now the car is worth less than $6K... What a joke.... At least with a used car, I will not lose that much money ---I know cars will never retain their value, but It was a mistake to buy a new car... Especially since the car has really never worked right....

i always thought the idea of buying a brand new car was a waste too. why do that when you can wait a year or two, and get it way cheaper, and there will be more mods out for it? but thats just me i guess.

yep, it happens with every car maker that exists, some more so than others. Take Ford for example, with 9 recalls on the Ford Focus alone. Have you ever really heard of any other stories like yours for honda or acura cars? If so, its probably very rare. But out of all the car manufacterers out there, you have to expect a lemon from each maker. Just because you got the lemon you shouldnt go anti honda-acura. But i definatly feel bad for you, and think you should do something about it....I'm not sure about the laws in your state but I would look into them and see if you can get represented by a decent lawyer.

Hope everything turns out for the better,
Ryan

I would have to say the dealership bought it from a auction and the person before beat the crap out of it. The dealership you bought it off of I assume isn't a Honda Certified dealership. You didn't buy it new did you? Can you say Lemon.. And I also have a 5th gen mine is a 96 and no problems here.

It was bought from a Honda Dealership *NEW* The dealership was an ass about everything when it came to this car.... When the warranty issue came up for the P/S failure, I was told it was void because there was exhaust on the car... HUH?!? This was 1yr or so ago---I have since given up on them to be reliable... I do not know if they have since changed or if the car is still under some sort of warranty since the car is about 5yrs old now... Oh's well's guess I have to take another weekend and tear the whole car apart, spend some money and get everything fixed, then sell the damn thing.... Don't get me wrong, I love my 1988 Honda accord, the 97 is just junk.. My Friends mom is Japanese and she told me that the newer accords were junk because they are made in the United states.. She asked me how my 88 accord was doing, I told her no problems with it---Kinda Funny I think...
