Default Help - '99 V6 - Autom. Accord Coupe-EX

Have a chance to possibly pick up a '99 Accord EX Automatic V6 Accord Coupe with 31K miles. I can probably get it for about $13K. It's in VG, but not excellent condition. What do you guys think? It's a replacement for my wife's 2000 SE Sedan w/36K miles on it that she totaled 2 weeks ago. We got almost $15K for it from the Insurance Company. Please advise....

The car you quoted has low mileage and the price is reasonable. I have the V6 sedan, but the coupe is fairly similar. Your wife will appreciate the V6 (assuming her SE was an I4), it's nice and smooth. The coupe is also sportier and a bit quicker than the sedan, but offers the same conventionality.

I would go for it.

Sounds like a good deal. I'd go for it and try to negotiate the price down lower

thanks for the replies guys...

And yes, her SE was a 4 banger. The V6 is obviously much stronger & hopefully just as reliable as the Honda 4 cyclinders they are so famous for. I would like to drive the price even lower, but about $13K is about all he's going to go down to, they are asking $13.9K. Retail value according to NADA & Edmunds looks like at least $16K so I don't want to push my luck.

She is also looking at a certified '00 Infinity G20 with 26K miles for about $14.5 (asking $16K+) that will be warranteed due to the certification up to 5 years or 72K miles which will give her peace of mind. The G20 is a 4 Cycl. aout 145HP similiar to the Honda 4 before the new '03 model. Tough decision....

You don't want the G20...it's dead reliable and all, but it's slow, bland, and really was not a very good car for Infiniti. Just because it says 'Infiniti' on it don't mean it's better, I'd take the EX-V6 Coupe over it in a second. The J30 (the V6) is extremely reliable, with only a minor transmission issue (that occurs in less than 3% of all Accords, TLs, and CLs) that Honda will cover under an extended warranty. Get the EX-V6, you'll be very happy

What color is the Accord you're looking at? Mine is San Marino red, I love that color

The Accord she is look'n at is Dark Cherry with Gray Leather. Only problem there is the Dark Cherry will show scratches & swirls more so than a lighter coler. The G20 is a light Gray. I hear you about the G20, but that excellent reliability, in addition to the car being in excellent condition has her leaning in that direction. I am trying to move her towards the V6 Accord Coupe but we are currently separated so it is her final decision. I own a 2002 BMW 325 Coupe and a '79 Dark Green Corvette so you don't have to sell me on styling, power & handling capabilities. Thanks for the comments! Tom....

The Accord is as reliable, if not more so, than the G20.

Is her car this color?

No 98Coupe...

It's much darker... i.e. Dark/Black Cherry. Your color is similiar to the Red I had on my /97 Acura CL that I sold earlier this year when I purchased my new BMW 3 Series (that I love by the way, what a machine; but a bit pricey). Sound like you love your '98 Coupe... We'll see what she decides.. I can only guide her.

Hi illusion....

Yes, that looks like the color. I just called it Dark Cherry cause that what it looks like to me. My bigger concern though is this car a good buy at $13K? I was a little concerned cause the exhaust is pretty rusty in the muffler area, so possibly the car sat for a while & built up rust? It's primarily the pipe that runs horizontal from left to right at the rear of the car. Other than that, all looks well except for a sizeable burn hole in the rear leather that they said they would try to patch. Also a couple minor rattles, one in the front dash & the other near the rear speakers. Any concerns with these cars having rattle problems?

Thanks...
