Default Engine tick (previously-Slick 50-thread)

Has anyone used Slick 50 engine treatment before?
I've heard good things about it. I've seen other additive's come and go but always see Slick 50 in the stores. Thinking of using it.

No don't use that **** or any kind of oil treatment!!! Some of them have been known to rot your motor from the inside out. If you notice the gov't has cracked down for false advertising on many of them. Besides a oil today is so good anyway, an additive is not needed.

i believe slick 50 is used at those jiffy lube places, but i dont recommend maybe the engine treatment, but i have used the SLick 50 fuel injector cleaner, seemed to make my car run a bit smoother.

There seemed to be a boom for a while for Oil additives for a while. I don't see any of them anymore. But I still see Slick 50 on the shelves so I didn't know if maybe they've been around because they work better. Seems like no one really uses them for a reason.

Thanks

The Slick 50 bottle tells you to shake it before you pour it in your engine. Now once in your engine guess whats gonna immeditaley clog up your oil filter? Those same useless particles that you had to shake before just to get out of the bottle. I for one dont want those particles clogging up passageways in my engine.

I stick with Synthetic fluids if you really want the ultimate protection which isnt just a bunch of snake oil.

Slick 50 was the first real oil treatment. I think they use derivatives of DuPont's Teflon, and if so, they are the only ones who can (license thing). I will say this: my stepfather's 1985 Buick Regal developed a valve tick at 75,000 miles. He bought the car brand new, so this was about 1989 or 1990 I think. The engine was a 231 with a 2bbl carb. He used Slick 50 at an oil change, and not only did the tick go away, but the engine lasted for another 70k. When the car was ready for the junk yard in 1997, the body was rotted, the head liner sagged, the wipers didn't work half the time, the fuel tank leaked, and the front shocks were gone. But the engine still ran smooth and strong (even though it leaked a quart a week). I'm not advising you to buy it, though. I don't believe in using those additives, either. But I think this does make a strong case to use Slick 50 if you are going to use one.

Slick 50 and most additives are mostly snake oil (excuse the pun). All the additives you need are already in there if you buy good quality oil (and they're chemically designed to be there). Stick with a good brand, and always use the same kind and your engine will be fine.

I read a book called "things your mechanic don't want you to know" about scams in the auto repair industry (Sears, Midas, small independants etc.). He he had a chapter on additives, and he said that Slick 50 is the only one with the right chemical balance to take advantage of the Teflon in it.

Then I read somewhere else where they tested all these cabs in NYC and gave a group Synthetics, another group regular oil and the last group additives (Slick 50, Duralube etc.) they said there is no difference as long as the oil changes are kept up at a regular interval.

I think I'm going to switch to synthetics.
