Ok, I just went to look at those stingrays.... definitely NOT my style, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
BTW, as I said before, my boyfriend works for Butler Tire Company here in Atlanta, so I can get the rims real cheap. Go check out their site- www.butlertire.com - if you want to see an awesome database of pictures of mods.
Pretty hot, huh?

I wrecked my 96 accord beginning of December! But on subject...i would START with wheels for SURE! You cant go wrong with wheels. Get some nicer silver or gunmetal. That is of course all your decision, its your car. I would get 18's or 19's...i personally wouldnt go 20 unless i KNEW that i could get 40 profile tires and not worry about rubbing. I wouldnt go lower than 40 profile tires if i were you, too dangerous for your new rims.
Good luck with ur new accord!
btw..i'm purchasing a set of tires from them at the end of january, my Yokahama Parada's are treading on thin radial steel

Dave
but the pic says GTS tuner

His name is Craig- ask for him specifically when you call and tell him that you came from the honda forum. And thanks for the good wishes on the new coupe- I just got back from joyriding all day. I can't wait until she's broken in. Woo-hoo! :naughty:

He said nobody- including the other butler tires- can beat his prices. In fact, he said he would do a high speed on-the-car wheel balance, a $60 charge, for free if you went to him. What a nice boyfriend he is.

Remember, you can redline it a couple times before the set 'break-in' time, just don't drive the hell out of it. Every Honda that comes off of the assembly line is redlined on a dyno machine to make sure the engine is producing the required horsepower
Can you ask him for prices on Bridgestone Potenza S-03's in 215/55/16 for me? Thanks
He suggests either Kumhos (at about $109 apiece) or his personal choice, dunlop sport fm901's (at about $119 apiece). He says by far they are the best performing tire in that size.
He has had a bunch of civic drivers off of forums asking for that tire and they've all said its the best best best. Hope that helps!

Yes, I could, but if it's going on your 98 v6 coupe (which I am assuming is your car by your name), then he says that you're wasting your $$$$$. It's an expensive, overrated tire. He took them off his BMW because they were the loudest things he had ever heard- he hated them.

"On the road, the Potenza S-03 Pole Position provided a good blend of road comfort and responsive handling, appropriate for the max performance tire category. Although not compared side-by-side, the new tire road noise levels and ride comfort of the S-03 Pole Position seemed to lose a little ground vs. its predecessor, the Potenza S-02 Pole Position.
The sporting nature of the Potenza S-03 Pole Position’s road manners was evident on the test track. In the dry, the S-03 Pole Position offered a good combination of overall grip and responsiveness and was highly praised for its composure and exceptional grip under braking at the threshold of wheel lockup, giving it the slight lead in dry lap times. In the wet, the Potenza S-03 Pole Position really showed its stuff, providing a level of driver confidence under cornering and braking (and quickest lap times) that just wasn’t attainable with the other tires in this test."
So really now, what kind of a deal can he give me? I've pretty much shopped and shopped and shopped for high performance tires and decided on the S-03's. but thanks away, I appreciate it

BTW, I read some reviews on that Dunlop on tirerack and people seem to be saying they're extremely unstable at high speeds and dangerous ( http://www.tirerack.com/survey/Surve...ommentStatus=P )...is this true? It's just just 1 or 2 people, about half of the people say they're noisy, dangerous, are unresponsive, and inspire no confidence.
Direct quote from my boyfriend: "if you're shopping tire rack, you won't find a better price. However, you won't find someone who knows more about tires than Butler Tire."
No, but seriously, he said that every person he has serviced who came in with those tires has complained about outrageous road noise- how weird.
BTW, he wants to know what kind of wheels you have, because the tire size confused him for a 98 v6 coupe....

I have 16" 98-00 Coupe EX-V6 wheels waiting in my garage. I was told 215/55 is the correct step up from 205/60/15.
So my question to him is, how does he claim to have more knowledge than people who have owned and driven these tires for a combined half million miles? The FM901 is the 2nd lowest rated tire in its class on TR.com. My old S-03's were alot quieter than the stock MXV4s, especially at speeds above 75 MPH. Not that I would know, of course
However, in the cold (below 50 degrees) they are very noisy...probably due to the soft compound rubber. Well, here's what the guy in the Si said about those Dunlops...and there are at least 20 other reviewers that say about the same thing:"these tires are horrible at any air pressure and any speed, but at highway speeds you feel like you''re railing every turn like you were in fred sanford's pickup truck! they wander, float, drift, and squirm. i tried to fiddle with the air pressure as one reviewer mentioned, and all it did was reduce my contact patch to the size of a nickle. (actually when you have a soft sidewall like this, jacking up your air pressure makes the sidewall squirm even worse, it does NOT stiffen it.) please do yourself a favor and stay away from these tires unless you botched up your suspension (ie: lowered the car and made the suspension so stiff you can't take it anymore!) and need to smooth out the ride. be warned, your car will have a scary ride when you try to take any sort of turn, but it will ride smoother. on second thought, just fix your suspension problems and stay away from these death donuts! yeah, like everyone else said, they're loud too! these tires are nothing but touring tires with a slick looking tread. "
About 40% of people seem to find them very nervous, loud and slow, 20% find them alright, and 40% find them really good. Compare this to about 80% with the S-03's that find them really good. It's just too much of a risk to take, that these Dunlops will suck on my car if they sucked on other cars. Especially since I drive so many highway miles. I've taken my S-03's to the limits on the highway and at the race track and I never questioned their capabilities. Not even while trying to keep up with a Ferrari at Watkins Glen.
Bottom line is, anyone who is shopping Tire Rack is shopping for price. End of story. If they weren't shopping price, they'd go to a real high-performance tire store. :fawk: I seriously doubt that any proffessional would say that there is a tire better than the MXV4. Besides the fact that you're comparing apples to oranges. The MXV4 is a touring tire, H rated, designed for highway use and DEFINITELY not for performance. That is why it is original equipment on most german highway cruisers. The S-03 is not original equipment on any car for good reason... it is a performance tire, gets low miles, (does not replace the S-02, it is just another tire in Bridgestone's lineup- the S-02 is still in full production
) and is usually bought by people who are shopping price. Need I go on?
By the way, as far as sizing goes, your original equipment tire (the 205/60/15) is exactly 24.67 inches tall. The 215/55/16 is 25.3 inches tall, a difference of .7 inches. That is too great of a difference in rolling diameter- not only will it change your gearing, but it will throw off your speedometer and odometer as well. On the other hand, the correct plus size for your vehicle is a 205/55/16, which is exactly 24.8 inches tall, a difference of only .13 inches. As close to perfection as you can get.
Smooches!
