I received a letter less than a year ago that said my car was one of many 1999 Honda Accords that had been recalled due to some issue within the steering column (ignition switch) that causes the car to become excessively hot and/or stall.
If your not the original owner or you've moved since you bought the car and didn't inform Honda of your new address then you wouldn't have been notified. All owners of recalled vehicles(includes anyone Honda was unable to notify) are entitled to receive the necessary replacement and repair free of charge at any Honda dealer.

there was a recall but it was on the 97 version of the 5th gen and up including all 6th gens. But...the problem was that you couldnt start the vehicle, it had nothing to do with overheating. That i know of anyway. You can call any honda dealership, ask them to plug in your VIN and they can tell you if its been done or not.

first of all turn your ac on and see if both fans are running. If both fans are working then fans are good.

then change ur thermostat. (located by the intake manifold)

Then change fan switch located by thermostat (should have green plug which is pluged into brown switch)

good luck

Screw the dealership. Buy a thermastat from Autozone, and replace it yourself. Should run you a total of $20-30 by yourself. It's just 2 or 4 bolts.

At least that is what happened to me, my car would only start to heat up when I was in really slow moving traffic or I was stopped.
Did you change it yourself? My wife's civic is acting up, same symptoms.

Thanks.
