Custom Plates???
yes the first digit does play a significance if you can call it that. The 1st number indicates what county the car was originally purchased in. Thats why you will see so many of the same first digits in the same county. I forget what else.

nope, i said COUNTY, not country. The COUNTY you purchase the car NEW in, will predict a certain letter for the first place. The VIN # has nothing to do with your license plate. And im speaking for CA, i dont know other states.

In NH it just goes by chronoligical order. Some people have 6 digit plates like my parents while other like me have 7 digits.
Sleeper, this is really just for Cali where they have the leading number on the license.
That does make sense though. Same as Florida and Georgia (I think), where they have the name of the county on the bottom of the plate. I knew there has to be something important, but now, it's clearer.
Why not a custom plate? Once you get it, no one can ever have it. It's sort of making a claim within the state that your car exists. Most of our time and $$ is spent on making our cars stand out from the regular grocery-getters. Why not get something like this and stand out. Heck, I even see little Geo Metros and big old Ford Broncos with custom plates.
I hate the Yankees too, btw.:madfawk: Anyone from NY hate the Empire State plates too? I still have my Liberty plates on.

My only problem with custom plates is the attention it can get you from certain phrases and it makes your car easier to identify by cops and potential thieves. Of course if your car is all tricked out it's probably easy to identify anyways.
In LA they're chronological also for the first number. My grandma's 96 van was 3TOR, my dad's was 4KEH, mine two months later was 4LEE, my mom's a year later was 4T or something, my bro's is 4WAV...now i notice that the new accords are in the 5's. trucks are different. it goes 1a2345 where cars are 1abc234
personalized license plates range from 60 to 90 per year depending on what you want from the dmv.
and i'd say a good half or more of all corvettes have personalized license plates in CA
