Default Has anyone done this?

I am thinking about removing my heat shield(over the header) and painting the header either black or silver, using hi temp paint of course. I just want my engine bay to look a little different, an H22 would look nice under there but unless you guys want to contribute to "95Uhkord's H22 fund" then that ain't gonna happen. To those that have done this(taken the heat shield off) what, if any, side effects have you experienced?

I've done that, but I didn't paint it. Don't have the time! I've had mine off since I bought the car, and have yet to notice any problems. That shield is there mostly for Honda to cover their arses. You know, the type of people who would burn their hand on a hot exhaust header are the same type who would spill pipping hot coffee on their lap then sue the restaurant for making the coffee so hot! Sort of goes along with the comedian Bill Engval and his "Here's your sign" routine.

Unless you live somewhere where water doesn't exist, most likely there's more rust than metal on your header. It'll take a lot of sanding and painting to make it look nice.

Yeah, mine's pretty rusty, but still solid. Don't see it going bad any time soon. Doesn't look all that great, but I don't show the car. I drive it

Yeah, I bet its mad rusty. It's probably going to make the engine bay a bit hotter.

im not necessarily trying to make it look nice, I didn't think about the rust issue, that being said, silver isn't in the question as that will make it stand out more. I'll just paint it hi temp flat black to at least make it a uniform color, whaddayasay?

I painted the heat shield itself. Looked much better after a nice coat of High Temp black paint compared to the corosion that was previously there

I used BBQ and stove paint on the heat shield... just took it off, sanded it down... and gave it a few coats of paint. Looks 10X better than the rust.

I've been toying with doing that for a while myself. Basically I just never remeber to do it when I have time and when it's cool.

I'd say polishing that heat shield would look the best (next to aftermarket headers of course).
