Default Is an H22a worth it.....

if I have an automatic? I know must of probably think I should sell my car and get a new one, but I have grown attached to it . What is an average 1/4 mile time I should expect with just an h22a engine/tranny and no other mods.

by the way I have a 92 accord ex.

Well, if you'd like to keep it an automatic, you'll need to find a 1997+ donor Prelude with the SportShift 4-speed automatic in it and transplant it into the Accord.

My guess is that you'd run low 15-second quarter mile times, maybe mid-15's on a bad day. The automatic will severely blunt your performance, and in my mind, if you're making that much of a commitment towards performance, you ought to just get the manual anyhow.

In any event, good luck with the hunt.

You can use any year the H22A is found in, if that's the case. The 1997+ is only because that's when they began to offer the automatic.

this is what my plan is. except i have a auto currently. i have a buddy that is doin a full h22 kit and hes giving me his old tranny. so im gonan do the conversion my self and then after winter im gonna buy a h22 and do the swap. b/c i guess the f22 tranny is great if you are planning to turbo the h22.

Well, why would you use an F23 tranny when the entire transmission/engine swap is relatively cheap? The H22A4's transmission offers shorter gearing to allow for quicker acceleration. If you plan to do this, may as well do it right.

The F23 transmission bolts onto the H22A just fine, and given they fit, I imagine the clutch couldn't be that much smaller on the F23, so it probably won't have problems handling the power.

But like I said, why bother?

The jdm 92-96 lude VTEC (h22a) came automatic and 5 speed. Then, when it comes to axles, the lude axles don't even fit in the accords. Then when it comes to trannies, if your car is an auto, get a h22a longblock (~1500) and do the swap by keeping your tranny, just make sure to get a h22a auto ECU. Then what you do is see if you like it, if you want to go faster, get the tranny and then do the changeover. Or, just turbo it and keep it auto because changing over to 5 speed will cost somewhere around 5 or 6 hundred dollars, plus tranny and plus the ecu so you might as well get a junkyard turbo and upgrade your fuel a little bit and run about 7 psi, you will look at low 14s. But its all up to you, if you want to know more about the swap, just ask i have read and looked into every aspect of it and will know exactly what it's like as soon as mine comes off the boat.

Answering the original question to this post.....NO. its not worth it! If your original engine has gone bad and you need it replaced, then its better to go H22A. If you want to be different from all those B series Integra/Civic swaps, go for it.
