Default 200 amp alternator

i have a 2004 accord. i recently installed an entire sound system in my car. the problem is that because its such a powerfull system my lights dim and evreything. i need a 200 amp alternator to be able to recharge the battery as well as my yellow top battery i have for my system. The only problem is that i cannot find a single place that has one for an accord or any honda for that matter.

i have never seen a honda with an alt that gave anything close to 200amps. I fyou are going beefy with your audio system, you might find a good one for a decent price here.

just get a capacitor u dont need a higher rated alternator. the capacitor works as a buffer for the system get 1 farad for every 1000 watts rms u have

there are many debates about caps vs batteries. a cap acts like a battery

Battery
-long charge time, has great charge for long periods of time

Capacitor (assume 1 farad)
- quick charge time about 2 seconds, charge is only good for short period of time

00exaccord as he mentioned it acts like a buffer. insted of your amp drawing the power from the batt, it pulls it off the cap just for that instantanious second when a deep bass note hits. It may prevent headlight dims for now, but what really gives power to your car? is it the battery? no, its the alternator. So really save up a little more and upgrade the alt. i think caps are useless unless you have a 500watt system and a 1 farad then your safe. anything as 1000watts + then doing a big 3, alt upgrade is best for the electrical system.

from his initial post.... he says he is running 2 batteries.

a cap may help with an occasional hard bump in music, but if you blast it continuously, having a cap wont help.

what kind of a system are you running?

alright, that is some beefy stuff you got. Upgrade your alt. I wouldnt recoment buying more caps because the are for show and dont help much since your audio system is power hungry.
