Default Advice on changing transmission fluid.

I have a 2005 Accord EX, 4 cyl. I'd like to know if anyone can walk me through a fluid change on the transmission. Also, does all the fluid come out, or is there some residual when doing only a drain/refill? Thanks a lot.

I believe there is residual but to change the fluid you can change the one in the transmission pan. Just loosen the drain plug and let drain into a pan. Then refill with 2.8 quarts or less. Check the level with the transmission dip stick.

I use a mityvac ( pump ) to suck out the tranny fluid on mine so I dont have to loosen the drain plug and just refill it with new tranny fluid. Honda ATF is like 7.00$ each bottle. I will use mobil 1 synthetic atf next time.

after using mobil 1 synthetic ATF start saving your $$ for a transmission swap.
7.00 dollars a bottle is nothing compared to the repair costs you'll incur.

stop being cheap and stick with HONDA ATF. Its a known fact that honda transmissions fail when using other fluids aside from honda ATF... Read your owners manual or search.

Drain/refill is pretty simple...bolt on the top and a bolt on the bottom.

There will be residual. If you're very paranoid, drail/refill twice. Never flush.

Actually, mobil 1 synthetic ATF cost more than Honda's ATF. The manual also states you can use dexron 3. So if I use synthetic ATF then Im not being cheap. I just feel synthetic is worlds better than HONDA non-synthetic ATF period.

the manual says you can use dex3 temporarily until you can replace it back with honda atf.

did you read the whole paragraph regarding dexron? It says to use it as a temporary solution and to refill with honda ATF. Its temporary not permanant.

feeling & knowing are two different things.
You may feel it's better to use synthetic ATF but we know that honda transmissions are sensitive to other non honda - ATF fluids but, since we arent responsible if anything goes wrong go right ahead and use the non-honda brand. Just dont bother posting messages as to why your car is shifting funny, slipping and or giving you problems. We're giving you advice on what to use. If you hesitate to believe us please do a search to confirm this.

I recommend Honda atf only. Been seeing too many shift quality issues the last few years caused by aftermarket fluid.
