94 Accord EX 4 cyl starting issues
My 94 Accord EX 4 cyl 5 sp has occasional starting issues. Mostly it starts fine but every once in awhile it cranks fine but won't start. I initially thought it might be vapor lock so I released tank pressure without effect & after next successful start I filled the tank up - don't know if vapor lock still occurs in these fuel injected engines. I'm still wondering about fuel system - filter or pump but haven't done any real problem diagnosis on it yet. Any ideas out there on a good trouble shooting approach or problem guesses? Thanks.
I had intermittent starting issues in my '94 EX. It turned out to be the start. It's easy to replace, about $100 for a new one. I'd replace it before you get stranded. You can pull it out and have Autozone or another auto parts store test it. Make sure they test it repeatedly, because mine seemed to be worked when they first powered it up. The pinion gear wasn't moving out properly.
I also had intermittent starting problems with my 94 Accord EX automatic. Eventually it didn't start at all an ended up replacing the fuel filter (about time after 200k) but this was not the problem. Considered the possibility of it being the fuel pump, but with the key in the ignition turned to the first click before starter, could hear the fuel pump running.
Symptoms: Could turn the key on and engine would crank, but no dash lights. A Honda mechanic said that it was the ignition module (not ignition switch) in the steering column. Changed it out and that fixed it.

Hey French, I think we are having similar issues with our 94 Accord EX. Car cranks, attempts to start, however with the key in the "on" position there is no power to anything in the car (power windows, sunroof, a/c blower) but the clock and radio work in "accessory". Can you verify this before we go spend $160 on an ingnition module? Going out now to test fuses and relays, but this sounds too coincidental.
Sounds like some confusion in terminology. There isn't an ignition 'module' in the steering column. I bet he was talking about the electrical part of the ignition switch (as opposed to the key cylinder).
If you can make it work or not work by simply holding the key in a slightly different position, that would pretty much prove it's the electrical part of the ignition switch. A better test would be to use a multimeter to test continuity through the different circuits of that switch as you move the key.

Hey Jim, thanks for the clarification. I think my husband understood what was meant. I should have also said that to roll the windows up/down (while being towed in 5:00 Dallas traffic yesterday at 95 degrees) the only to do it is to crank it over and over until the windows were where we wanted them. Anyway, my husband hasn't ordered the part. Luckily, we have a 95 Del Sol and 02 MDX. This is exactly why we have three cars
so when one isn't drivable we still have the other two.
