Like I said... Share those links. Never promissed you a rose garden and never said I was a Certified Honda mechanic. Everything on the net should be taken like a grain of salt....Cheers Jack

Read your HONDA manual which will tell you you have to use ATF fluid.
If thats not available you may use Dextron but you have to change over.

Ok, since my us telling you you must use honda ATF and you disagree, how about you drain your tranny fluid and re-fill with another non-honda brand and you'll see what we are talking about.

Honda ATF has a special lubricant in it that others dont.
I didnt get into detail with the honda guy but almost every avid honda owner knows you must use ATF

Well the car ran rough for a day, than ok for a few weeks. I took and cleaned the Shift cylinoids and it ran really good, they were clogged bad. It was cool again. Then it Jump when my wife stopped the car at lights and hesitant to shift, I checked the fluid it was one quart low so I went to a local Honda dealer and brought 1 quart of tranny oil. The car ran good for two days, now it is when jumping again. I checked the fluid and it is Brown. I was told I should take out three quarts of the tranny fluid and replace three new quarts of H0nda Fluid. Ok What do I do??? Wife is worried her car is toast and don't want to worry about the car's tanny having to be replaced.
What if any advice does anyone have. Any with same experiance?? Please Help.
As far as I can tell the problems started after having the car flushed. Not from the fluid change. I can't say that it isnt better to use the Honda fluids.Cant argue what I cant prove especially when I stated "my" opnion.

Now it would after reading around, its better to run Honda transmission fluid based on a sense of security more than proof. Probably better to be safe than sorry. The guy I bought the 93 DX automatic transmission worked at ProLube and bought the car from the owner of the ProLube who bought the car new. 200k on the motor transmission and I'll find out next time I'm up around the the place if he actually used Honda brand fluids while he owned it. If not and 200k I cant see a problem with non Honda products, If so I'll have to agree with the use of Honda Ttransmission fluids.

Now the question I have... Does Honda recommend to use all their products on their cars or do they only recomend their transmission fluids?

I can't figure out why other manufactures of transmission fluids state they are compatible or exceed the manufactures recommendations. They must be getting raped in court over this, or not.....Jack

The main things that need to be honda fluids are tranny, PS fluid, and don't mix Honda coolant with other shit. The Manual tranny's can use non-Honda pretty OK, they're much more bullet proof than the autos.

Default changing transmission oil

after 150,000 miles and never changing the tranny fluid? not a real good idea. my experience is that by not changing the tranny fluid for so long hardens the inner seals..and since the original fluid was very thick from deposits etc. it was running fine. until you put in fresh tranny fluid which is now thinner& cleaner , the seals are not working as well and thus the bad performance shifting. as for should you use honda atf or non honda atf is a subject of much discussion. if you use non honda atf, do a 4 parts dextron/1 part synthetic ATF ( i have done this with my wifes 02 accord) it runs just fine....Also I never go to jiffy lube, they just do not get it .

I don't see why people make such a fuss over buying Honda fluids, cheap bastards.

HELP! I lost a tranny in a 97 Acura. Maximum slippage, thought it was dead, so I found a low mileage replacement and installed it. A week later, and it is slipping BAD. I used Dextron III because the manual said I could, now after reading the horror stories on the forum about using honda fluid only, I fear that I have trashed another tranny.
1) How do I clean the solenoid screens? I intend to drain and refill it and clean the screens, and see if it is saveable - What do you think my odds are?
2) Is there anything else I can do? Used low mile automatics are hard to find, and I can't afford $2000 for a rebuild.
Thanks in advance!
John

you cant clean the screen without removing the tranny.

drain, refill, drive around, repeat 3x.

Default Lucas Transmission Treatment

Personally I dont know much about using specific fluids. From what I've seen its best to use Honda ATF in all honda transmissions. Honda uses a special lubricant for its parts where-as many other ATF fluids do not have the same lubrcants and in some cases they contain dangerous solvents.

I had a rough shift problem and used Honda ATF+ Lucas Transmission Fluid Treatment and it worked like a charm. It's not going to fix everything, but the shifting is 60% better if not more. Lucas ATF treatment is more like a transmission syrup rather than a fluid. Its designed to thicken the fluid but not change its checmical composition.

I'm not sure if anyone has experience with this additive, but ive found that it works great and it hasnt done any damage to the automatic tranny.

Get back to me with any comments.

I was impressed by the test results of Lucas oil treatment...
