Default 1996 honda accord se

my car in shop for 2 weeks. problem starting cold. changed distributer, plugs, timing belts, cam shaft sensor, fuel pump relay, and now they want to change the computer. Should I trust they are on the right path. Spent $1000 already. Help!! My only alternative transportation is public and its a physical burden for me. Thanks.

you already spent 1000 on things that didnt need to be changed???? I would bring it to honda at least they would have found out the problem the first time without any added cost...

How many miles do you have on your car? Also, give us some more info. What do you mean by problems starting cold? Did you check the battery?

Anyways, there should be no need to change the ECU on your car. Don't get hosed by these scumbags.

LOL sounds like a shady place...

Aren't ECU's like bulletproof? I've never heard of them going bad...

Get your car outta there and take it to Honda...

What do you mean problem starting cold? It really could just be a loose ground and they're milking you for whatever you got... Remember metal contracts when it's cool, so contact could be hindered when cold...
Sorry to hear this, good luck man!

this is why you should either go to the dealership or a trusted honda mechanic if you need to get something fixed. most garages are like this...they'll let you throw money on parts they think may fix the problem without actually taking the time to troubleshoot it.

I must have at least 190k. speedodemeter is intermittant and milege indicator stopped at 160k. Have new battery. I don't believe its the ecu either.

thats the VSS, a 20 second search would have told you that...if he didn't even know that, you picked the wrong shop by a long shot.

and most mechanics would be inclined to test or change the starter before any of the other stuff...I wonder why he didn't do that?

we need more info like does the starter turn? doesn it click only . if the engine turns over is there spark or fuel ? sounds like the shop is taking you to the cleaners and it's time to try a shop that only does hondas or the dealer. but I doubt the computer is the problem usally when they fail they throw codes for no reason . or are water damage.
