Default whats this that fell off my car?

Kids, whats going on?

I'm a new not so new guy here, first post. Ignore my ignorance and try not to laugh too hard at.

Know pretty much next to nothing about cars, trying to change that. Anyway I've got a honda accord 02, god it Dec 02, and something fell off it the other day.

From looking under I think it was over the section of the front axel where it connects to the drive shaft?

I've been driving a good bit with it off, I swung by a autoshop and it seemed like the guy was sizing me up for a ripping. The part doesn't seem too important or hard to install so i told the guy later. I probably should've went to the dealer I guess. People seem to think the dealer would've done the same. Isn't something like this covered by warranty? Its 4 years old and under 100k miles.

Catalytic converter heat shield, don't worry about it. Leave it off, mine has been off for 30k miles bc I messed it up replacing my cat. Just don't park on any dry tall grass/leaves.

Thanks guy, the first mechanic I spoke to was guestimating, the shield replacement, cleaning and any damages or ware sustained due to the shield being off would total a couple hundred with labor included.

Yea I wanted to leave he said it'd be under $200 for sure because he could give me a discount.... pffff

Booooooo

Why are some mechs so sceeezy man... geeez.

I called the dealer to see if this is a warranty thing, I dunno think big chunks a metal should be falling off my car like that... the guy i spoke to was a jr mechanic I guess because he couldn't gimme a price but someone would call me back, he said its pretty cheap though. I asked with labor included, he said they probably wouldn't even charge me labor, just for the part, if I would bring it for regular maintanance..

He did stress I should get it replaced because its a fire hazard being exposed... I said fire what? where? he's like dry leaves etc etc..

That true? I mean its fall and I live in a pretty wooded area so yea dead/dry leaves will be all around.. is my car gonna catch on fire if I park on dry leaves?

heh...

The odds of anything catching on fire are very, very slim. But it's not a difficult thing to put back on yourself if you want to save some money and have the peace of mind.
