Not if you're above 36k miles. This isn't a safety or emissions issue.

fire is a possiblity, although a small one. i've heard of stories of people with no heatshields parking on tall dry grass and sure enough it caught fire. the cat can get pretty damn hot after driving a bit.

one night i was driving with friends and we saw this car on the highway and his muffler was bright red!. I guess the temperature was hot and it began from the bottom of the engine to the tail pipe. It was dark out and you can see the reflection of the heat from the ground under him.
it was a beat up chevy cavalier..................lets not forget the headphones he was wearing.

Don't worry about it. I have all the heat shields removed from my daily driver. After a while pretty much all of them will rust and fall off anyways.

I just notice this... cleaning?? Damages due to not having a heat shield?? That right there is absolute complete bullshit. He is thinking about how much money he can get into his pocket. What is the name of the shop?

Sadly... it was a Meineke, I should've known just by the look of the place. It was really dilapidated, I think both the mechanic and the place were alteast 70 years old. It just happned to be the first place I saw after I heard the noise n pulled over to see the shield on the side of the road. I pulled in just to ask question and the mech started out pretty cool but that didn't last too long...

Even more sad, is if he hadn't started seeing other issues I would've probably had him do the "repairs"... but he started to comment on other crap and I was like... ok... bastard.. you almost had me for 100+ dollars on the shield but ya had to be greedy. He was trying to sell my performance tires also, ofcourse his last 2 pairs of this particular brand that he'd give me %20 off.... cause my tires were pretty worn and winter is coming... blah blah blah

man if you can't trust ol' george who can you trust?

It's the lower heat shield for the cat. It's only important for the fire hazard (leaves, tall grass). For the TSX, we need to remove it to put the cusco lower strut braces. You don't need to put it back on unless you feel like you need it.
