Default winter tire size

My buddy's got a 95 Accord SE 4 door. Hes wondering what would be the best tire size for winter tires. Any suggestions?

would a 205 fit on the stock 15s?

thanks

the stock tire size... which should be 195/60-15... 205/60-15 will work too, they are just a tad wider.

The best tire for winter would be 185 65 15 , but otherwise stock 195 60 15 is best combo of snow traction and performance. In the snow the wider is not better.

Hey would anyone be willing to give me a break down on the definition of each of the #'s for tire sizes? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx,
Bob

Bob-
Take 225/40R18
225=width of tire in mm.
40 is not the direct measurement of the sidewall of the tire, but relates to the sidewall in that it is an aspect ratio comparing sidewall to tire width. My sidewall is 40% of 225mm...basically smaller the number, thinner the sidewall (more low-profile)
R=Radial
18=wheel diameter (measured from where the tire contacts the smallest outer circumference)

I'm sure www.discounttire.com and www.tirerack.com have some explanations if you want more info.

Wow, thanx for that wealth of knowledge.

Bob

Oh and what else could the letter be beside radial? Like for a "Z" rated tire would that letter be z ?

Bob-
Radial is pretty much what all cars ride on. There are some slicks made for racing that are still bias ply construction rather than radial.

Z is a speed rating. Average car from factory gets like H (130mph)
Z rated tires are rated over 150mph. (Like I'm ever going to go that fast )
