Thanks a bunch, yeah I decided to read up on it after I posted. Either way, I got ahold of a new distributor and had it replaced. All is well now.

I have one more small question, what should the engine idle at? It seems mine is idling at anywhere between 100 and 500rpm lately, and is vibrating a chugging quite a bit.

Thanks for all your replies.

make sure the distributor is set right... if its not timed correctly your car will run rough

my 92 idles around 700 when its warmed up. yet im not so sure how accurate the gauge is under 1000. the vibration at idle can be weak motor mounts or egr valve ports are clogged. mine is an automatic, it has always vibrated at idle. ive had my front mount replaced. that took care of an obvious vibration in reverse. mine doesnt chug. i did have a valve that was out of adjustment that made the car run rough.
