OW-40 Euro Formula in 2005 Accord LX 4 cyl?
Hey Accord2005NJ You had been talking about this oil question quite a bit. Every time someone gives you there option you respond back with a lot of facts. It seems s like you know a lot about which engine oil to use. If you still have question if it is ok to use 0W-40. The answer is yes it is ok to use 0W-40. It is also ok to use 5w-20, 5w-30, 10w-30, 10w-40, etc. as long as the oil meets the minimum API rating. And most current oil does meet this rating. Honda only recommends that you use 5w-20 and does not required it. Go ahead and try out the 0W-40. If you’re still unsure about this, write a letter to Honda or Mobil corp. It seems like what ever we tell you, it would not be good enough.

So, I should just blindly accept what someone posts here? No questions asked?
We are discussing an interesting subject here and all you guys seem to be concerned in you ego.
I am asking for some facts because I am interested in this. If you want your opinion blindly accepted on just your "say so" with no specific arguments then no, what you "tell me" will not be good enough.

You see thats actually what I am interested in. The "thick" part. I know 40 is thick but my question is - is it ok to use. One of my friends mentioned that as long as oil pump can pump 0W-40 at the same pressure/strenght to get it everywhere like 5W-20, then it should be ok. So that is my "worry" - can the oil pump deliver such a thick oil in all parts of engine the same way it can deliver 5w-20? What about Euro engines? Do they use engine oil pumps with higgher pressure?
Thx
Personally, I would just use what Honda recommends because they seem to know their cars a little bit better than the consumers. Another thing is you don't soley have to rely on this forum for information, ask some mechanics in your area or maybe there might be some information in those books that tell you how to fix your specific vehicle. But hey, don't let me cramp your style

Bottom line. A heavier weight oil probably does protect better in many cases, but unless the engine is designed for it's use, you might do more harm than good.
oil is based on where you live.
i use mobil1 10w30 in my integra because i burn thru 5w30 like it's water, after 2k miles i'm down a quart or two.. i also dont mind because where i live the temperature when i'm driving the car in will only be below 20 maye 5 times a season. now as for 0w40, i wouldnt even go near it for honda 4 banges, use either 5w-30 or what honda suggests. that is unless you have tried other things out and foudn them to work well.
