Default slotted rotors destroys pads?

My car was being serviced, and they said I needed new front brakes, and resurficing of the rear drums. Since it was my mom who picked up the car (I was working) she set it up to be dont this previous Friday.

Anyway, when I found out about that, I immediately got online and started looking up slotted and slotted/cross drilled rotors+pads for the front.

When I went in w/ what I was looking at about a week ago, they said they would refuse to put aftermarket brakes on due to 'liabilities', (this was not at a Honda dealership, but rather a reputable Japanese autoshop in the Seattle area)... when I asked why, they said that slotted rotors destroy the pads overtime, even if they were performance pads, not OEM. This struck me as odd, given the amount of good I've heard about slotted and slotted/cross drilled breaks, and had never heard of such a thing. Needless to say, given that my parents were paying for this brake job, I couldn't do anything but let them put on the rotor and pad that they sold to us.

Are those claims true, or do you think it was just to try and scare off someone to keep them buying the products from their shop?

Thanks!

At one point they are right but they are only making excuses just for the liability issues cause if your brakes fail and you get into ancident, then they will be responsible because of not putting the rotors right since the company that makes the rotor wont assume responsibility.

About the drilled/slotted rotters, they make a whisling noise when the brakes are appllied, most people have fart pipes(loud exhausts) in thier cars and dont feel it but they do make that noise. When the brakes are applied, the pads put a certain amount of preassure on the rotors which makes the car slow down and when it escapes through those holes, it makes a noise similar of a steam engine. I've heard it and that why Iam telling you.

As far as the life of them, Iam not sure about the actual life of the pads or rotors since nobody that i know had them.
This is what I know and heard so lets wait for some more replies from someone who actualy had them.

slotted or drilled rotors will wear out the pads faster. on the street you wont notice any difference. best to stick with stock.

MB's use Cross-Drilled rotors. I had cross-drilled rotors on my 92 Integra, my 94 BMW 325i and my ex gf's 98 Civic Ex and on my best friends 92 Lude and they all work perfectly fine. It might depend on who you use, I used Powerstop rotors but I might change over to powerslot. If anything, just get brembo blanks and more aggressive pads. But your shop was full of shit or maybe the companies that they've installed are crap.

Well, I think it was the person I talked to, the company is very well respected throughout the Seattle area... needless to say though, I'm now officially pissed at them for lying to me.

I can understand the liability issue, and if they simply told me that they cannot install aftermarket brands or what not, I'd have totally understood... they didn't have to lie...

Also, ya, I was actually curious as to how good Powerstop and Powerslot rotors are... and I was looking at ebay, and there are people selling these:

Brembo cross drilled/slotted + Axxis Rotors? Does Bembo even make those for '97 Accord SE's?

Unless you're running a built engine, brembo blanks and Axxis Pads will be enough. I mean, a 300hp evo is running essentially the same thing minus the caliper but I've seen numerous high hp cars that run a simple Brembo/good pad combo.

But I mean they do make those for '97 Accords right? Those aren't fakes, as they make S/CD for '97 Accords? Bembo that is? Because on the sites I've been to, all I've found are blanks and slotted... not S/CD...
