slotted rotors destroys pads?
My car was being serviced, and they said I needed new front brakes, and resurficing of the rear drums. Since it was my mom who picked up the car (I was working) she set it up to be dont this previous Friday.
Anyway, when I found out about that, I immediately got online and started looking up slotted and slotted/cross drilled rotors+pads for the front.
When I went in w/ what I was looking at about a week ago, they said they would refuse to put aftermarket brakes on due to 'liabilities', (this was not at a Honda dealership, but rather a reputable Japanese autoshop in the Seattle area)... when I asked why, they said that slotted rotors destroy the pads overtime, even if they were performance pads, not OEM. This struck me as odd, given the amount of good I've heard about slotted and slotted/cross drilled breaks, and had never heard of such a thing. Needless to say, given that my parents were paying for this brake job, I couldn't do anything but let them put on the rotor and pad that they sold to us.
Are those claims true, or do you think it was just to try and scare off someone to keep them buying the products from their shop?
Thanks!
