Default Ripped CV Boot

hey guys, i think my driver's side CV boot is ripped, but i was wondering if i could get some advice:

what would be some symptoms of this? what possible damage does it cause? how much should i expect it to cost to fix (parts+labor)?

thanks.

usually after 60K miles the cv boot need to be change. the best thing to do is go to autozone buy the entire axle with lifetime warranty and bring ur old back and u get a refund. any shop can do it for $100 or under, that is if u dont wanna do it urself.

I always simply replace the boot and repack with grease before the axle starts popping(clicking). The broken boot causes all the grease to sling out. The axle will then begin to wear out at a fast rate if you don't replace the boot soon enough. 10 bucks for the boot is a lot cheaper than 100 bucks for the whole axle. Of course, this is if you do it yourself. If you paid somebody to do it, it'd probably be just as cheap to replace the whole axle than pay him to change the boot. This is because you have to remove the axle anyway to change the boot. Get a price on the boot change and the whole axle change, then you decide.

well, i don't believe i notice any of those symptoms. since i'm new to the area and don't have tools or a garage, i went to jiffy lube for an oil change. they were the ones that said i had a ripped cv boot. should i believe them, even though i do'nt have those symptoms to my knowledge?

they might be saying the boot is cracked, not ripped.. if it's ripped, all the grease would come out... but if it's cracked, u have a couple more months b4 it'll actually rip...

to do the clicking noise test, just turn ur steering wheel toward the direction of the CV u wanna check ( if it's the right CV, turn steering wheel to the right)... move slowly, 2-4 mph, and listen for any clicking sound.. if it's not clicking, it should be OK.... but to make sure, jack up the car and look at the CV boot itself.... see if it's cracked, and if so, how bad it is..hope tht helps

clicking test came out negative.

the jiffy lube workers are kinda young, high school-ish or something, so they could be wrong. i dont think theres any reason they would lie, because jiffy lube doesn't offer those services and they didn't recommend any mechanics, etc.

should i just forget about it and move on? i'm new to the area and 2000 miles away from home home, so i dont have tools or my ramps or anything, so i can't check or do anything myself.

i have the similar problem but the thing is my wheels dont click when i turn....when i shift from park to drive i hear like a popping coming from the wheels.when i hold the brake down and apply the gas, you can hear it popping. i know it has something to do with suspension but not too sure what it is...
any ideas? my first thought was the axels.
