well with the paper clip method. the D4 light flashed 4 times.

yes but i went to confirm that they got the same codes on the reader that I got using the paper clip

P0700
P0740

those are what I got.

they didnt read the actual tranny code ( by hooking up the reader to the TCU )

I called American Honda and they basically said nothing can be done. I have the extended warranty for my 02 which ended at 75k miles.
Right now I have 94,xxxk miles and am pissed. They told me that the warranty was extended for the 98-01 accords up to 100k miles.
So i told her what are the odds that the 02's are fixed. Can you gurantee that the 02 models are exempt from this tranny failure.

I dont beat on my car if anything I drive alot. I would say about 92k miles of this is nothing but highway miles since I've driven this car from coast to coast. Highway miles wont wear the tranny also.
I dont know how else to proceed with this. I dont want to go to Honda and pay xxxxxxxxxxxxx dollars for this. Im a bit dissatisfied with how the agent addressed my problem.
Basically, there is nothing we can do. Goodbye.
I replace my tranny fluid every 15-20 k miles just to avoid this potential problem. After I bought the car thats when i heard about the notorious tranny failures etc.

Tranny is shifting very weird upshift and downshift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st when coming to a stop.
Im getting to the point where this will be my last Honda.

Dude you're not a noob...this topic has been covered tons of times. Do a search for the DTCs, they're all posted, you probably wont have a problem getting either a free tranny or a hell of a deal on a tranny from Honda.

update: 10/19/05 - I disconnected the battery for a few minutes to see if it clears the CEL.
Upon reconnecting the battery the CEL is no longer on. I drove the car around the block without any problems. The symptom i experienced yesterday no longer was present. Lets see what happens when i get onto the freeway.

check the trans fluid to see if it smells burn't from what I hear (cannot confirm) is that the torque converter goes bad and throws crap into the trans ,clogging the internal filter screen and burning up the clutches as we had a few of the 6th gens that would drive fine when first driven but after some miles down the road would not shift or slip .

Everything you could possibly need to troubleshoot it is listed in those two threads. P0700 is a generic trouble code not pointing to anything specific. Did you not see the info in those 2 threads or do you not understand the procedure? It's kind of tricky to test yourself but it's doable.

I'm well past the point of helping you out. If someone else wants to try they can
