fuel filter removal
Since we got this 4 month old thread resurrected, I encourage everyone with the nightmare 5th gen Fuel Filter to take it to a shop.
It's well worth the $30 or so they will charge to change it.
Unless you like being under a jacked up car, getting fuel sprayed on you, jerking, pushing and shoving, wondering when the car is going to fall on you.
This job requires a 16-20" extension, 14mm crow's foot flare nut wrench and you have to access the underside of the fuel filter from the bottom.
The top can be done through the hood with a 20" extension and a 17mm socket.
Best way to release the fuel pressure is to remove the fuel cap and break the top banjo bolt loose on the fuel filter S-L-O-W-L-Y.

Unscrew your gas cap and then use the pressure relief valve screw on the fuel rail to relieve fuel pressure, not unless your pressure relief is on the top fuel filter nut (some models are). You can undo the fuel line screw to the fuel rail but that's NOT the actual pressure relief valve.
Invest in a good set of crows feet for the fuel filter change job and be prepared, it's a PITA.

shop1 - filter $45, $50 labor
shop2 - filter $43, $55 labor
As you can see, if I could do this myself:
filter - $20 from NAPA, labor free
Go for it.
It is not worth it to me. I would have about an hour of cussing, fighting, knuckle banging, etc. in it and I have a local independant garage with a former Honda Dealer mechanic in it. They charge $25 to change it and I bring them a $23 Baldwin filter.

Same issue on my '95 Odyssey. I'm off to find a 14mm crow's foot wrench. I can get a regular 14mm wrench on it from the top but there's just not enough room to get any leverage.
Honda should have put it on the firewall and have the inlet and outlet both on top just like the civics. I don't know what the hell they were thinking when they did that.
