ok.....let me put this in more simple terms.

first off, let me apologize for any previous statements I made, as I have been known to come off the wrong way on the internet, it's a bad lil habit of mine.

secondly, I'm not looking for all out speed, or all out power, I was just wondering if anyone here had maybe built their own intakes, or if there were any free mods that could be performed to these motors. By no means am I looking for huge increases in power, but hey, cheap and free hp is always a plus, agree? I've built all my cars myself, and on my days off from the fire dept, yes, I'm a fireman in Clarksville, TN, I used to work for www.totalengineairflow.com when they were in Bowling Green, KY. They have since been bought by Trick Flow, and are now located in Ohio. I helped build the shop C5, and all the customer cars. It's just something I loved to do, and rather than being paid in cash, I asked Brian(the owner), if I could just be paid in parts.

Anyways, I got off track there. What I'm getting at is, I love this car, and it serves its purpose wonderfully well, but I'm just thte kinda guy who can't leave well enough alone, ya know? It's just fun to me to modify stuff. Although, if it's something that's still under warranty, then any modification I do has to be reversible if I need to take it in for any warranty work. Which, with this car being a Honda, I really don't forsee that happening.

But let me end by apologizing again for coming off like an ass, totally my fault. I'm just here to pick up what you guys already know. Like me, if you ever want to know anything about and f-bodies, Vettes, supercharged 6-sylinders, than I'm your guy. But I'm here to learn from you guys about what works, and what doesn't.

Like said above, the car's on it's 4th year in production, not exactly new to the market.

I think what people are trying to get at, is that if your Accord isn't meant to be fast, and you have fast cars for when you need that rush, why waste your time trying to make it a faster "dog"?

Sounds like you would know just as much as the next guy when it comes to home-brewed parts, so knock yourself out. You might get some gains, you might not. If you do, it'll be doubtful it'll actually be enough of a difference to make it worth it...or even feel it.

No problem Brian, I come off that way constantly The problem with newer Honda motors, especially the 4 cylinder in your Accord, is that they're already so well engineered from the factory that the intakes and exhaust are typically very free flowing (compared to f-bodies and a lot of American cars) and the backups come in the forms of fuel mapping, VCT control and other electronic controls that make the engine as efficient as possible instead of as performance oriented as possible. That's why aftermarket ECU bolt ons that change fuel mapping and VCT activation are so effective in the K series motor. An AEM cold air intake, which is pretty well engineered, will only get you 5 or 6 wheel horsepower on your Accord. Cold air intakes do give a big boost to the other K series engines (for reasons unknown to me...I think it has a lot to do with the agressive factory VCT settings and the DOHCs), and on the TSX and RSX motors have been proven to gain about 20 horsepower at the wheels. An exhaust might only give you another 5 or 6 horsepower...combined you're looking at another 15 WHP for about $1000.

You of all people should know that the horsies aren't cheap, and especially on your Accord. Unlike the small block V8s that you're accustomed to, your particular K24 has been made to be focused on fuel efficiency and economy. It would take a lot to make it fast, due to its relatively low compression ratio, soft VCT, and other engineering designs that make it as efficient as it is.

I have a friend with an old ass Mustang, and any little thing we do by ourselves produces huge gains with it because it's so damn choked up with emissions crap and untapped horsepower. Not the case with these engines...they've been wrung out by Honda pretty thoroughly.

There are threads for DIY intakes in the DIY section, do a search, but would you really want a piece of dryer hose in your engine bay on your brand new $20,000 car? That's my point I guess. Although if you'd like to do a before and after dyno with it I'd be more than interested to see the results

lol....thanks for the replies guys. It's not that I'm trying to make the car "fast" per se, but just give it a lil more oomph. I like my torque.

I completely understand what Honda did in the design of this motor, and so far, they couldn't have done a better job IMHO. And it's good to know that the factory intakes and exhausts are so well designed, it just saves me some money.

I guess I should leave well enough alone, and look into doing more appearance oriented mods, something I have never done. lol It looks like I will be adding the OE Honda spoiler, the OE Honda foglights, and some OE mudflaps. I also like the OE autodimming mirror, is that a hard install on a car that didn't come with it? Other than that, I might upgrade to a set of factory Acura 17" wheels and tires. Who knows?

May I suggest the 5-spoke gunmetal 17" accessory rims? I saw those on a Prelude yesterday...

Instructions for the autodimmer are on www.handaaccessories.com along with an entire list of Honda accessories.

Don't forget the altezza taillights and the obligatory 50 stickers so you can fit in with the Honda crowd

i second the 17" gunmetal rims. theyre freaking nice. id get them in a heartbeat if i had the money.

if youve got cash and time to spare, why not get a full HID retrofit conversion? very practical and adds serious pimp factor. not that im biased or anything...

varies. for me it was all a matter of finding the necessary parts and bringing them together. and i copped out and had someone do the actual retrofit for me, but this guy was amazing and i dont regret it one bit. search around this forum, the topic of HID retrofits have been covered several times and in depth. holla back if you have any specific questions not answered.
