Default Accord Diesel?

Hi,

Does anyone know if Honda will bring diesel engines in the US? In Europe Honda's diesel is quite "famous" (i.e. considered very good).

I think it is a viable alternative to hybrids. New diesels are quiet, clean, accelerate very well, engines last longer, and fuel economy is 40 miles +

So, do you think diesels are coming?

Yes, they will come with the new low-sulfur diesel that the US will be getting soon. The 2.2 Honda has is too good to not bring here...I'd expect it to be an engine in the Accord model range for the 8th generation (2008).

Well I should have my 05 paid of by then (I hope ) I think I would then go for manual diesel Accord. I drive about 2000 miles+ per month (mostly highway) so a diesel would be heaven sent for me. When I was looking for a car in 2005 I also looked at Passat diesel but I "gave up" on Passat due to the fact that it only came with auto tranny (manual was not available). So, instead I went with 4 cyl Accord Auto.

I have family and friends in Europe and the last time I was there in May 05. I drove a CRV with stick and diesel engine and that thing kicks ass. I mean, it goes to 100kmh (60 miles) in no time and continues to pull strong all the way. Engine is quiet and economy is excellent...

just remember to get a block warmer... since diesels require the compression heat of the engine to ignite the fuel a cold engine will kill you (i'm not sure if the honda 2.2 has a head warming system or not...)

Hi,

A friend of mine has a Honda Diesel and lives in a very cold winter climate and does NOT need engine block warmer. I also noticed when you turn the ignition key to "contact" it takes only a second or two to have the symbol for "ready start" disappear (indicating you can start the engine).

I really hope we get it here....

Diesel is more expensive to maintain and it cost more when you buy a car but since you are driving a lot it should cover all your extra expenses.

Hi Sibiryk,

Why is diesel more expensive to maintain?
