Default Need auto trans for 99 V6 Accord

The tranny on my 99 Accord is starting to go, slipping between shifts. The car has just 71,ooo miles on it, and is bone-stock and not abused.

Does anyone have any decent sources for either:
1)New auto trans

2) Rebuilt auto trans

3)LOW mile salvage trans?

I am in Minneapolis, MN

Also, will tranny's from other years bolt up to this car? I have the 4 door 99 LX v6 with auto.

Thanks!

Have you ever had the fluid changed or had the tranny simply serviced by a qualified Honda tech.?

First have that looked at, it could be a minor problem unrelated to the dreaded tranny failures that so plague the 1st conclusions....

You may just need a flush, and an adjustment to something minor. It couldn't hurt.

Any 98-02 Accord re-mfg. V6 tranny should serv you just fine if need be....

98Accordv6 would likely know more on the said topic.

Sources for transaxles for your car
'99
new- not avail any longer

rebuilt, I'd stick with an HEC trans (the ones who supply Honda with their rebuilt units)
You'd need your vin and the trans model code that's on the sticker on the top of the unit.
Expect to pay between 2500 and 2900 just for the trans depending on the length warranty you want. Installation is about 6 hours labor.

Jasper also builds these units, but I've been having no luck with their other products lately, and they are WAY pricey.

You could go used, but you must get the exact model that your car has. (example, a '98 V6 has a B7XA) If you don't you could get one with mismatched electrical connectors or worse, the wrong size axle shaft holes in the diff.

since your car is at 71k and just under 7 years, call a Honda dealer asap, you may be covered under a warranty extension for up to 7 years, it's either 70k or 100k. I've had a few '98s with lower or slightly more mileage being given special consideration and they will usually just charge labor and a reman trans is included.

Do a search, this topic gets covered many many times. The most affordable choice is a slightly used tranny off ebay or from a junkyard. I got a 2000 tranny with 33k miles for $700 shipped. At 75k tranny miles (192k chassis miles) it's still shifting perfect.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll try the dealer where my late Aunt bought the car (Burkle Honda in MN). Perhaps they'll help me out.

I can't see spending $2500 for a new tranny, so if I can't get Honda to help me out, I'll no doubt end up rolling the dice on a boneyard tranny.

Can anyone provide a source for tranny compatability? Is it true that ONLY a 99 v6 tranny will fit, or will any 98-02 v6 tranny fit?

Thanks!

98-02 fits. I don't know why you'd go through the dealer as no Honda dealer has ever been known to try to help anyone save money on anything but good luck with that.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That's what I thought--only for 00-02. My car is a '99.

I also do not have a blinking D4 light, just crappy shifting, and slipping between shifts.

I really doubt Honda will offer any help, but I feel like I should at least try to get Honda to cover it.

They've done a lot of goodwill replacements or "we'll do the labor for free but you buy the tranny" deals. Give it a shot and remember to ask to talk to the zone service rep if you have trouble.
