Scheduled Maintenance
sounds like a noob question, but besides gettin oil changed every 5k miles (give or take, of course), what other maintenance should i be getting or be aware of? im at a lil over 18k miles, and the OM says no scheduled maintenance til 100k+...
ive done a few searches but nothing too specific about routine stuff. any help would be much appreciated. holla.

I don't have the book with me for our '03, but I think 30k miles for engine air filter & cabin air filter. Probably 2 years for fresh brake fluid. So YES the owner's manual DOES have stuff scheduled before 100k.
There should be a bunch of inspections, like brake pads & rotors. They aren't scheduled for replacement because some people get 70k, others get 30k miles.
No timing belt because it's a chain (at least for the 4-cyl. engine).
Spark plugs at 110k miles, but I'll probably pull mine to look at them before then.
I think they say the 5-speed tranny is filled 'for life', but I personally don't believe it. Maybe I'll change that oil at 50k or something? I haven't really decided how often.

Honestly the most important thing is lubricating all the lube points...I've been slacking off on it and lately my suspension is squeaking/creaking too much and my right front piston is sticking. I'd buy a Helms if I were you.
If you're comfortable with lifting your car & taking the wheels off, you can do lots of those inspections yourself. Go to www.helminc.com for the best repair manual, but even Haynes & Chilton (public library?) are better than nothing.
What about all that stuff in your signature? Did you install it yourself? If so, you can handle most of the inspections.

And yes, I second the Helms manual.

h: I wasn't specifically talking about the suspension, I was just finding a hopeful scapegoat for the odd squeaking noise that could be a worn out linkage bushing or something.
