I've heard that if you have a stock engine it's a bad idea to mess with your cam timing...but I don't know a whole lot about it.

I work with VCTs a lot at work and we retard and advance the timing based on many factors...I would never want my timing permanently retarded or accelerated though :dunno:

You can't just pick a number and set it. You need to do to a dyno in order to get a physical print out of what the cam gear changes do. If you turn the cam gear(s) too far, you risk piston to valve and valve to valve contact ... in other words BOOM!!!

Well heres the story on why i did this, i bought one of thoes "power chips" off ebay and suprisingly enough i can tell a little bit of diffrence when it shifts, but the problem off the start i have a large amount of delay before it actually starts going, between 1000-2500 rpms it will go but after that it picks up pretty fast thereafter, i assumed i was loosing alot from the cam gear or pullys what do you think????

The cam gear can be set, at one point (I can't recall who) there was a tuning page posted by the owner for the Acura CL 2.2. Before he went turbo he had done some dyno cam tuning.

He saw some gains from a 2-3 degree change (-/+ I don't recall) but he did give up some HP for torque and likewise. However, he was able to shift the curve better over all for him.

He also tuned with an ajustable fuel pressure regulator as well.

If you could find a tuning page for the cam gear that would be great, ive seen it done before with other cars (eclipse) with a stock engine, but its not mine you know so i would like to see what other people have done

No point to adjust cam gears with stock cams
