The cam gear can be set, at one point (I can't recall who) there was a tuning page posted by the owner for the Acura CL 2.2. Before he went turbo he had done some dyno cam tuning.

He saw some gains from a 2-3 degree change (-/+ I don't recall) but he did give up some HP for torque and likewise. However, he was able to shift the curve better over all for him.

He also tuned with an ajustable fuel pressure regulator as well.
