2003 Accord - manual shifting problems?
I was wondering if anyone can comment on my situation:
I took my 2003 Accord (EX-L Sedan) to the dealer about 2 weeks ago to have them check the manual shifting. It doesn't feel right to me. When the car is stopped, and I have the clutch in and I am shifting between gears, it is reasonably smooth. But if the car is moving (above 60Kph it is really noticable) and I put the clutch in and shift between gears, it is almost like it hesitates to go get the shifter into the gear... kinda like when I'm shifting as I go into the gear it is catching on something. I'm not a mechanic, so I can't really describe it with proper terminology. Anyway, it doesn't feel right when I'm driving because when the car is moving and I put the clutch in to change gears, I feel hesitant to switch gears quickly because it clicks and catches on something and I sorta have to force it through that into gear.
So when I left the car with the dealer the other week, they looked at it and they said they test drove the car but couldn't find any problem. I didn't pickup the car during hours when I could go out for a test drive with someone, but I paid the $40 or whatever they charge just to look at the car. I still think there is a problem! I think I'm going to go back next week during the day and ask to test drive it with a service manager... but I thought I would post here and see if anyone might know what is going on.
Comments?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers

But should it do that? I've driven standard on my last 4 cars over many years before having my Honda and I never felt a shifter like this. Also, I'm positive it wasn't like this when I bought the car... it just slowly got like this over time and now it is getting more noticable to me.

I would say that you need to get used to how it shifts, but you said that it seems to be getting worse. :dunno:
I remember when I first got mine, it freaked me a little at first because of how I had to be more deliberate at engaging the gears. I came from driving an old Civic that almost fell into gear when I threw the shifts.
hey mrksts, how do you do that signature thing on tha bottom that lists your mods everytime you post a comment? also you guys might wanna match your rpm's while in neutral to what you think tha rpms are gonna be in your next gear while shifting to the next gear. this will cause very smooth shifting.

For normal driving, I don't even look at my tach. anymore. I just shift by sound and feel. I guess that comes from driving a standard continually for 17 years. However, when I went to Colorado recently, I had to watch.
