Default Rear speaker mounts...

I have 94 accord lx with some crappy 6.5 inch speakers in the rear. I want to change out the mounts for the 6.5 with some 6x9 mounts. I know the EX comes with 6x9 in the back so would some 6x9 mounts from an EX fit in my LX? Anyone know a cheap place to get them?

Im not sure if its the same, but ive got a 94 dx and they had the 6.5 in the back...i took a saw and a bit of aggression out on those holes and got the 6x9's to fit in there no prob. If you really want to go through the trouble of getting 6x9 over the 6x5 you should probably be investing in a decent pair, maybe some Polk Ex's....best to just go listen to as many as you can and find the ones that sound best for your budget...

I've already picked out some 2-way infinitys for the front and 3-way infinitys for the rear. I went to several honda parts sites and am waiting for a quote through email but i probably won't get one until tuesday. How long did it take you to saw out those 6.5 brackets and how hard was it? Anyone know a site that has the 6x9 brackets online ready for order?

the holes are already cut into the sheet metal on the rear deck for a 6x9, you just have to cut through the carpeting/fiberboard...use a coping saw or something...pretty easy, just take your time...and make sure to cut the holes while your checkin the fit on the speakers...you dont want to cut the hole too big and have it lookin bad...if anything, a hole a bit smaller is better since you can use bolts to pull the speaker into place and close the gap from inside the trunk...

6.5" speakers have far better sound quality than 6x9 (if you're comparing similar level speakers) i took out my 6x9's and put in another set of components in the rear deck i kno its overkill, and that i dont need it (bad imaging) i just had an extra set of tweets

Well since i don't have any subs, i figured some 6x9s would give me a little more bass than some 6.5s. I would get components but i don't have the money right now. Maybe later i'll add some tweeters to the front. To those people who have replaced the front speakers before: How long does it usually take?

the front speakers are pretty easy... i'd give yourself 2 hours if youve never done it before though. You have to take the door panels off... which isnt hard... theres a total of like 3 or 4 screws in the panels, then it just pops off. The screws are in the arm rest areas... and in the door handle cup.

Ive never really paid much attention to the rear deck of the LX, but does the grille look sized for a 6x9? The plate that the 6.5 is mounted in, is that oval shaped (just a little bigger than a 6x9 speaker) and held in by 3 bolts?? If so, you can use a piece of rigid plastic, put a layer of dynamat or something similar on it, and mount the 6x9's in that... or you can use 1/4" MDF...

i took the bracket and rebolted it from the bottom to hold my 6x9s. sorta like a sandwich with the top grill as the top part of it.

Not sure if the holes will take 6x9's, but Metra makes a 6x9 to 6.5 adapter, kinda funky, but no cutting needed. May be a magent clearance issue with the trunk springs.

Good luck!
