Default Heater Control

I need to replace the heater control knob. The knob itself turns however it is broken on the inside and I can not change the temp. from hot to cold. How do I get access to the dashboard. Honda Accord 1991

To replace the knob, you need not take off the dash. Just pull it straight out, and swap with a junkyard one. Its mounted on a half circle piece of plastic, and if the knob developes a crack, it will spin freely about this half circle. I actually reused mine by going to town on it with electrical tape wound very tightly around the broken knob. On mine however, the rack and pinion-esque contraption that opens and closes the hot air vent was stuck, so I did have to take off the front fascia of the dash. For this I used a Chilton's (Haynes) manual. It just tells you where all the stupid screws are. I also had a squeek, so I took the front of the dash off for two reasons.

What's a 'low-med-max dial'? If you're talking about the fan-speed switch, it sounds like your problem could be the fan control resistor pack. Check that to see if one of the resistors is burned out.

Yea, when resistors fail you generally lose one maybe more functions but not necessarily all. I'd check the circuit for resistor failure.
