Default 2 noise issues and 1 performance.....

1st: When i'm driving at a steady speed I can hear a low rolling, rumbly sound coming from the front of the car. If i push on the gas and accelerate it seems to go away, but if I hold the gas steady it's rumblin. Any ideas on what this may be an indication of?
2nd: When i put my car into gear (AT) sometimes I hear a slight chattering like sound. I changed my tranny fluid back to honda brand and it seemed to help quiet it down, but I can still faintly hear it. What about this? TIA
3rd: My 94 Accord has 173K miles on it. I purchased it with 145K and haven't done much but regular oil changes and spark plugs. I just finished a valve adjustment and flushed my PS fluid. My car feels quite sluggish. Would possibly changing the cap, rotor, and wires help? How about the fuel filter? I guess I wanna know if I can expect to feel a difference if I replace these parts. TIA

Fuel filter is supposed to be done about every 30K miles so this should be a regular maintenance piece.

The distributor cap, rotor button and distributor wires may need to be changed if they haven't been in awhile. I usually do my rotor button the same time I do my spark plugs which is about every 2 years or so like you're supposed to do. The distributor cap and wires just depends. The distributor cap should absolutely be replaced if it is cracked or if you see scarring taking place. Even if you don't it's a good idea to replace it especially if it's been awhile. Your wires? If they haven't been done recently, I'd just do those too and get some decent ones.

Remember that when you change the fluid in your tranny you're only taking out and replacing a few quarts.... While the Accords do not need a tranny "flushing," you probably should take it in for a tranny service from the stealership. It should only run you about $69 or there about and it's worth it especially at that age. Sometimes it'll help with the little noises and issues you may have. I suppose tranny issues could be around the corner for you too but in either case you want to exhaust all your "cheap" options first; right?

I can't say what the noise is... Are you sure you've done your valves correctly? Did the noise start before or after your DIY valve job?

It was doing it before the vavle job. The engine seems to run smoother overall, but that rumbling noise is still present. I don't think it's coming from the top end. It almost sounds like it could be something loose. Maybe the ex manifold or the pipe that comes down to my cat...it's pretty rusty. As I stated, it only happens when im just maintaining speed with the gas barely pressed. As soon as I give gas or let off it seems to stop.

Actually, if you say there's rust under there.. You could have a small exhaust leak.

one good way to find out, is to take the car to a shop and have it lift but stay inside the car and put it on drive while the mechanic is under looking for the sound.

I had a similar problem and it was the exhaust.

I took my ex manifold heat shield off today and it sounds like it's coming from behind and below the manifold. It's in sync with the rpms. I think it may be coming from the block.
