i just tried a new size tire on the accord today...before i was running 215/45/17 nitto neo gen tires. i loved'em, went through two sets, but i wanted to try something new. so i ordered a set of 225/45/17 falken azenis sports...the grip is off the hook/amazing, but on my first test runs on hard turns i heard a noise that i've never heard before...the rear tires were rubbing. ain't that a bitch? my wheels and tires never have tucked, and the car's dropped a couple inches all around, but i keep the suspension set pretty stiff so i'd never had a problem with rubbing before. what i forgot about tho, was that the 225/45's are taller than the 215/45's (i should have gotten 225/40's). this is why i'm glad i've got coilovers. to fix the problem i just raised the rear end by about three tenths of an inch (the difference in height between the new tires, and my old ones). one thing i was wondering, has anybody ever cut off that little inside lip on your rear fender to get rid of the chance of rubbing all together? and is that little lip really there for anything other than being in the way? i really didn't wanna have to raise the rear any...i actually want to drop the car all around a little more but because the wheels dont tuck all the way, i never have. i use the car for autocrossing, road racing, and hard everyday driving so i cant just slam it for looks. the lowering has to be functional, and i can't live with rubbing. any suggestions on cutting out that lip on the rear fender would be greatly appreciated...holla back

know of any how to's on rolling a fender? personally, i was just thinking about cutting the inside lip completely off...i read the part about the rear bumper, it's not touchin that at all....it's just that damn lip when i hit bumps during a hard turn, or if i hit a turn hard enough...

I thought your problem would be rubbing due to the tires being a lot wider. I have a friend that has them and they are more like 232 for width. the height is about the same, so I'm not sure why you are saying they are taller. both tires have a 45 height. they are a sweet tire though, have fun with them. they will wear real quick, you'll be lucky to get 15K on them.

both tires are 45 height, but one is 225, one is 215...the 215/45 has a thinner sidewall than the 225/45...the sidewall height is based on a ratio with the width so even tho the numbers are the same, the height isn't...i thought about going with 225/40's but i didn't want the tires to be smaller than the 215/45's...i should have just gone with those probably tho...but my rims never have tucked even with 215/45's, rubbing was never an issue tho, because my suspension is race day stiff, all the time lol that's just how im used to driving it, that's how i like it. it's the added height that's causing the problem...so now i think im gonna roll or cut out that inside lip on the fender because it really serves no purpose other than being in the way...then i can lower the car back to where it was...maybe lower if that lip's not there...i just need to figure out how to do it lol

Most people who run 17's use 225 45 17, the problem is with your offset. If your offset is lower than 45 then you will experience the tire rubbing issue. 45 will be the ideal offset for those who use 17 or 18 inch wheels.

225/45/17 dont fit right on the accord...they are just plain big... 215/45/17's are perfect...225/40/17 would fit alot better

A couple of my buddies have 225 45 17 on their Accords with a 45 offset and no rubbing issues. What is the offset of the rims you have.

The 225/45/17 is the same diameter as the stock setup, but this can vary a bit with different tire brands/models. 215/45 is closer than 224/40, but whatever floats your boat. The shorter tire will be helpful in autocross though.
