Default 18s Psi?? and rubbing issues

Hey guys,

I was just curious for those of you running 225/40/18 tires, what pressure are you running it at? I believe the rule of thumb is to add 2psi for every inch increase.

The door stick says to do 30 psi for my stock 15s so currently I'm doing 36psi. Just wondering if there was other recommendations out there. The max pressure on my tires are 44psi.

Second question is a rubbing issue. My rear rubs a little when I go over bumps.... I'll have to slow to avoid that. I think it's only the left rear that rubs a bit. I'm not sure yet. I'll have to chalk up both sides to check.

Reason I say the left rear...is I'm can see some marks on the edge of the tire...so I'm gussing that's where is rubs. I hear it rub.

If I leave is rubbing like that...will I risk major tire damage ie... more prone to a blow out? It doesn't seem that bad though. For those of you who rub...where does it mostly rub?

Thanks in advance for any input

So you got them eh?

I go about 36-37 psi on my 18s.

As far as the rubbing goes, a lot of the rubbing can be eliminated by trimming the rear bumper...the plastic tab where it connects to the fender. Some even go further and remove the screw and trim that whole area away. If you do end up rubbing on the fender lip itself, and it happens enough that it drives you crazy or is damaging your tires, then you can get your fender lips "rolled" back to eliminate the rubbing.

I trimmed my bumper tab, got rid of most of the rubbing, I occasionally rub now, but only when I hit a bump going through a hard turn, or a hard turn with people in the back. I don't sweat the minor rubbing, no real damage on the tire, so I just live with it. It's close enough that my camber settings determine if I rub or not. Right now I have it set up so it's a decent balance of tire wear and rubbing. I'm right at the spec limit for camber.

18x7.5 45 offset, 225/40-18s. Without camber correction, I never rubbed.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and post up some pics.

thanks Schmiddy....

Well I got 18s...not the Rota Subzeros I was hoping for. When I finally got around to ordering them last friday, (18x7.5, +45, Bronze w/ polished lip, 225/40/18 Kumho MX, $1102 shipped, yeah pretty good deal) the wheels were on back order.

I had to wait 60-90 days if I wanted them. Even then they weren't sure when I'd actually get them. Plus I had to put down a 50% deposit...I heard of something like 20% deposits but 50% is a bit much.

So I went to plan B and bought some used wheels off a guy on AccordTuner. There are gunmetal Motegi MR3s. Used for a season, decent deal with tires and all shipped was $650. They're 18x7s w/225/40/18 Hankooks. On the Motegi websites, they mention these 18x7 wheel have an offset of +42, but the guy was sure it is +40, so I'm not too sure myself.

According to the wheel offset calculator....it should not have rubbed with only a 7 inch wide wheel with either 40 or 42 offset. But I guess you have a point there with the camber issue in the rear. I know I'm off by a little.

Only draw back is that these wheels are friggin heavy...LOL...50lbs with tires. But my accord is no power house...so it's all for looks...not meant to go fast.
I'll just wear down the tires and then get something else I guess...but it'll do for now.

I'll post pics when I get the chance. I put it on Thursday evening right after I got it. It supposed to snow 6-12 inches between now and tomorrow. Man it's the end of April...and snow?

I guess anything can happen in Ohio. Thanks for your words of wisdom as always! Now I need to find a good deal on some Koni SP 3s.

Definitely keep them babies aired up as high as practical (and safe). You'll survive potholes better. 50lbs. each? Wow, I didn't realize it added that much weight.
