Struts
I had Koni's Sports purchased and installed for less then $900 total.
I you're going to drop a grand.
Go to www.shox.com; get some Koni's or Bilstien's and find a local mom&pop tire shop to install them and do the alignment.

You're gettin ripped bud. My struts blew when I slammed my 97 so I threw on some KYB's, and things are great now. If you don't have any probs with the current ride then don't change them. Keep your money or spend a little extra on some Hi-Po tires! You can change them out yourself if they fail in the future. If your car is stock I suggest renting a spring compressor from Autozone or someplace like that to get it done. I'm actually in the process of putting some new springs (Eibach Sportlines) on mine now, so if you want some pics email me.
Struts and shocks aren't the same thing. struts have coil over springs.. (springs are actually located on the strut). Shocks do not have coil over springs on them. The spring and shock are separate..
Oh, and yeah, I'd say you're getting ripped. Do some research, find a good DIY and replace em yourself. If nothing else, bolts that you can't get off w/ your equipment, have just the bolts replaced so you can easily get them off yourself.
