Default 95 Accord OBD2 tool

Hello folks,
I have a 95 Accord and an 02 Odyssey. I'd like to buy an OBD2 tool that will work with both, being able to read out as much as possible (I hear there are "generic" codes, and manufacturer-specific codes).

When I say "tool", I'd actually like to buy something that will work with a laptop, as I have an old one that will fill the need. It has both serial port and USB. Any recommendations? Specific brand/model information would be much appreciated.

I'd also like to be able to use the same hardware to work with my 99 Ford F-150. I realize that I may need a different code load for the laptop, but I was wondering whether the hardware interface would be the same?

Thanks,
Lou

95 isnt obdII it's obdI
the 99 and the 02 will work with obd-2 scanners, and the 95 will need it's own...

i say just buy a standalone unit that gives you the code numbers.... you can just look them up online and it's alot simpler than trying to fandangle somthing with a computer....

entry level obd-II scanners start at like $60-80

My Accord does have what appears to be an OBD2 connector behind the ashtray. My question is, how do I determine whether it is active, and whether it is compatible with the scan tools?

If you have a digital volt meter you can check the pins of the dlc connector for power and ground. Probably the easier way would be to take it somewhere that offers a free scan and see if it gives info up to the scanner if you're volt meter challenged.

Now that being said...It kinda works both ways, just because it has a DLC connector doesn't mean it's a working interface. I have seen some 95's that it did work like a 96-up and some that had the plug but wasn't connected to anything...I should have mentioned this in my earlier post. Sorry.
