Default Under Hood clean up

after all the salts that were dumped in the road.....
my car got .......... Salty I should say....
I opened my hood yesterday and I realized I need it to get it cleaned...
Does anyone know how much it cost to get it cleaned? or is this something that I can take regular hose and rinse it off?
thanks

I was coming home from the mall, I noticed I was surrounded by 7 ACCords. wow.... so many ACCorders . HONDA LOVERS!

search for simple green degreaser... wait till engine is not too hot, then cover battery, alternator, fuse box, and distributor cap with plastic..... spray that stuff all over the engine bay and wait 15 minutes... then use high pressure hose to rinse it off... after that, take of the plastic bags and start the engine (close the hood to make the engine bay dry faster)..

out of curiosity, what would happen if the parts you mentioned were NOT covered before being sprayed down?

It's not really a problem if you do not cover the parts... as long as your not dumb enough to sit there with the hose pointed at the alternator for a while, a quick spray to rinse of those areas (WITH THE CAR RUNNING) will not harm them.

Myself, i use a degreaser and a soft towel and do it all by hand, but only b/c im a neat freak and i like to get every crevice. Soak and rinse isnt a bad method if you want it done quickly. You could also go to your local car wash and take a pressure washer to spray out your engine bay.

I wouldn't use a pressure washer. A regular hose would be safer to use.

Simple Green works great. Just don't leave it on too long. For really stubborn stuff, super build-up, etc., you can use some good ol' engine degreaser (like Gunk).

I don't cover up anything but technically you should just to keep all the water out. I'm just careful not to drench anything like the alt or the distributor, etc.
