I don't know what is so special about it, but I do know that using a different fluid will kill the tranny from experience. I think you are just being a little paranoid about it. I wouldn't worry about it until around the 30K.

In the last 2 months my Honda went six times to South Florida accumulating amazing $14,000 miles already. Now, in Camry I change my tranny fluid once per year no matter what (I do about 10-15 k per year - depending on business).

I know what Honda manuals says but I don't have a problem spending 100 bucks to make sure my car is kept at tip-top shape and I just feel that keeping the fluid that long was recommended more for marketing purposes then having in mind 100% maintenance needs of the car.

And yes, any "sensitive" maintenance and/or work I always do with Honda dealers. I even buy my own Mobil 1 Syn oil and Honda filter.

BTW - thanks for your reply. You seem ok and civilized, unlike some of the jerks (see Mr. Beeeeee) who are so "busy" that my post is taking them away from their lives as f.kin brain surgeons (or internet p.orn surfing ha Beeee?)

I have an 02 accord and I frequently drive to south florida from NY.
When I bought the car I put about 36,000miles until I changed my tranny fluid.
Following that I changed it again at about 65k miles.

Since you seem like the type of person that takes extended road trips I would just often check the tranny fluid ( dip stick ).
If it has like a brownish color to it then I would recommend changing it.
I still believe its pretty early for you to change it on your 2005 accord.

If you feel the tranny is slipping then I advise to bring it to Honda to take a look at it. It might be more than just the fluid.

Thanks God tranny is working perfectly (knock on wood). I'll keep it in until 25k and I will then change it with 2-3 fills and drains with Honda's genuine ATF. I think that will work well.

I was just curious what makes Honda's ATF unique. I just find it hard to believe that all other manufactureres would not at least copy Honda's formula if it is so good for transmissions. But hey, as I said, I will use Honda ATF. (In my Camry I also always use Toyota ATF).

Honda ATF has some sort of lubricant in it.
Different than other ATF's.

just double check the fluid before you do it.
If its still a redish color then you dont need to change it.

Long trips like that put less wear on the tranny than frequents top and go city driving that requires the tranny to shift alot.

Id wait, and just do the drain and fill like you mentioned around 30k.

Beeline, despite your impressive post count of 8 whole posts, you are not a messenger of this board or forum. Leave that to us.
