Only use Honda ATF, don't mess around with other crap. If you want to be a professional DIYer or whatever you can go against Honda's advice, but I don't possibly see why you would.

Hi 98CV6,

In the last 2 months my Honda went six times to South Florida accumulating amazing $14,000 miles already. I also had (in NJ) lately some snow where I live, and tires were slipping a lot which I guess puts some strain on transmission. Now, in Camry I change my tranny fluid once per year no matter what (I do about 10-15 k per year - depending on business).

I know what Honda manuals says but I don't have a problem spending 100 bucks to make sure my car is kept at tip-top shape and I just feel that keeping the fluid that long was recommended more for marketing purposes then having in mind 100% maintenance needs of the car.

And yes, any "sensitive" maintenance and/or work I always do with Honda dealers. I even buy my own Mobil 1 Syn oil and Honda filter.

BTW - thanks for your reply. You seem ok and civilized, unlike some of the jerks (see Mr. Beeeeee) who are so "busy" that my post is taking them away from their lives as f.kin brain surgeons (or internet p.orn surfing ha Beeee?)

I agree with wedley, I wouldn't worry about it yet. It's suppose to be done at 30K, and the trips to down here to south florida are all highway miles, which are not really a strain on anything but tires (that's a little exagerated, I know, don't have a titty attack) If you really just want the peace of mind, just do drain and fill. Everyone will tell you not to do powerflush. You can do drain, fill, drive the car a little, drain and fill. Two times would be enough to get mostly fresh fluids in there. And it won't cost anywhere near 100 bucks as long as you have a wrench a catch pan and a funnel. Hace you talked to the honda dealer about it? What do they say?

Hi,

Dealer says the same thing - which is fill and dragin but they want $60 plus tax just for ONE fill and drain. I will likely buy Honda ATF and just go to my mechanic to fill and drain 2-3 times for 30 bucks.

Thank you though on your imput.

Damn. 60 bucks for something that takes like 10 minutes top, and the fluid is like less than 20 bucks. Crazy. If you really can't do it yourself, then your mechanic doing it will cost about the same as the dealer doing it, but you get the 2 drain and fills. Changing the tranny fluid is even easier than doing an oil change. Why can't you do it yourself on a saturday afternoon?

But why waste money on preventative preventative maintenance? This doesn't make sense to me. I've got 170k on mine and I've found out that Honda knows what they're talking about when they recommend maintenance intervals.

To be hones I work 6 (sometimes 7) days per week so whatever free time I have I try to spend it with my family (as oppose to working on a car). I used to do these drains on my Camry for a while but then I got too busy and just started using power-flush service at local Quicklube.

Hi 98CoupeV6,

So you suggest I just let it be until 30k? I don't think I can wait that long. I might give it until 15-16 k and then do it?

Also, just our of curiosity what makes Honda ATF fluid special? I mean why is it better for Honda's then for example Mobile 1 ATF?

Thx
