wait till 90k. that is when it is recommended. while you are at it, change the water pump too, they should only charge you parts, because they have to remove it to install the new timing belt, so there is no extra labor.

well its recommended to replace it anyways even if its at 60,000 because it has been almost 10years and the belts can snap because they are old. so just do a timing belt powersteering belt and ac belt and alternator belt get all the seals changed the cam seal crank seal and change the water pump and you should be good up to another 100k if you use honda parts

If your car is that old and/or if you do not know all the car's history, go ahead and do it. I have a 95 and they recommend 90K. However, to the other guy's point, the belt (no chain) can just get old obviously irrespective of the miles.

Have them replace the water pump as well. They'll have everything torn out to do the timing belt. You wouldn't want them to have to re-tear out everything just for a water pump later down the road and charge you all that labor again. You may also want to ask about the balance shaft. AND BE SURE to have them replace any of the appropriate seals while they're at it too. No sense in skipping that part only to get/find a leak a little bit later on.

I feel like the dealer is the best place to have this type of work done. My EX has over 183K miles on it; and I'm (over) due for my second timing belt, etc. For the timing belt, water pump, balance shaft, and seals, its going to be around $620 give or take.

I have a 92 Accord LX with 128,000 miles on it. I went to Pepboys today and had a high mileage oil change and major tune-up for $391.00 . The service manager quoted me a price for a timing belt replacement as just over $510.00 . This price includes the water pump and new seals and gaskets. Am I being ripped off ?

You can pay that price or less at the dealer or a more reputable mechanic who specializes in Imports. I'd go some place else.

Letting them do shocks or brakes is one thing, but a timing belt is something Id leave to someone else.

Go dealer for timing belt, etc. Others just aren't worth what LITTLE you may save.

Think about it... $5XX at a Pep-Boys... or $6XX at a HONDA DEALER.... Hmmm....
